International move from , SWI to Pittsburgh, PA

Lost our entire shipping container for days. Blamed everyone else.

Stevens lost our entire household for a week. Did not answer calls or emails. Apparently the shipment cleared customs and they did not do anything afterwards (they were supposed to transfer it from Cleveland to Pittsburgh). Then they claimed that the origin agent indicated that the shipment terminated in Cleveland rather than Pittsburgh, which is completely false (all of origin agent's documentation say Pittsburgh). No apology from Stevens, no attempt to remedy the situation. Just curt, rude emails telling us how things are going to go and blaming everyone else. And here we have an entire family forced to sleep on the bare floor for an entire week due to this. At least they could be respectable and apologize for causing all of this, or make some kind of effort to rush it. But no. We have yet to even see if they will provide the full-service moving and furniture assembly that we paid for, or if our household items are OK. Avoid Stevens like the plague.

Long-distance move from La Canada Flintridge, CA to Silver Spring, MD

Choose another company.

I hired Pinks (who have an excellent reputation, and who we had used before for a local move) who gave it to Stevens for the cross country trip. "Thieves and wreckers protected by lawyers" is my short description of our experience.
Even though I was present at the load out and the load in, stuff (particularly from the garage, which we had used to store some of our valued personal mementos during the "staging" process of the house sale) was seen to be packed, but just did not arrive at the destination. Other furniture just arrived broken, with the disclaimer that "presswood isn't covered by insurance" being used for just not taking care of the customer's possessions.
Our claim against Stevens was dismissed by them, since we had not recorded the damage/missing items at the time, even though it was the behavior of their employees/contractors that prevented missing/damaged items being identified.
Still miss my antique train set that wasn't noticed as being missing until the Christmas after the move :(.

Long-distance move from Pasadena, CA to Annandale, VA

Overcharged after pickup.

I was charged an extra $3000 because they estimated the weight incorrectly. I got the bad news three weeks after the move. At that point you can't reconsider or go with another vendor They have all your possessions and you have to pay whatever they say. Basically a ransom payment.

Make sure and get a guarantee of price BEFORE entering into a moving contract.

Long-distance move from Hartford, CT to Elk River, MN

Terrible experience with Stevens.

We do NOT recommend Stevens van lines. We used them when United Van Lines was not available for our move from the East Coast to the Midwest.
The two man crew that came on packing day were terrible. They did not label boxes properly, squished everything from each room into huge boxes and packed clothes along with other items, including stuff from the bathroom, such as bathroom rugs. They were extremely haphazard and disorganized in their packing and required constant instructions and supervision and took all day. They did not wrap items well, including fragile ones. We had used United for two prior moves and were extremely impressed with their organization and packing methods. They used multiple small boxes and literally labelled every single one with all the items packed inside. With Stevens, we had to instruct them regarding everything including removing bulbs from lamps before they put them in the truck. The movers missed packing items and when we pointed them out, they told us you should have told us earlier. We had already informed them as soon as they arrived that everything in the house needs to be packed.
They told us they would unpack in the Midwest for an extra fee which we signed up for but little did I know their unpacking involved opening boxes and dumping everything in huge piles in our rooms. They dumped bathroom mats and kitchen utensils on top of our kids clothes in the nursery (I ended up having to wash every single piece of clothing my kids owned). We had to sort through mountains of stuff which literally took weeks as boxes from different rooms were dumped on top of one another. I cannot begin to list the number of items they damaged; multiple lamps, our wood bed, wood tables, two expensive $500 car seats, expensive nursery room furniture, etc. We had a separate storage section in the East Coast which was supposed to go to a storage area in the MidWest. They put multiple items into storage that were not supposed to go there and vice versa. My husband and I spent a lot of time and effort tracking down items and moving stuff to and fro the storage area and three months after we moved, we are still missing a few items and have no idea where they have misplaced/missed.
I never write reviews, this is my first one, but after a terrible experience, felt compelled to warn other people of how unorganized and careless they are.

Local move within Tennessee

Move From Florida to Tennessee.

Do not use Stevens World Wide Van Lines for your move. We had moved from Texas to Florida in 2014 and used Stevens. The crew was fantastic. They wrapped everything and nothing was damaged. We used Stevens for our move this year from Florida to Tennessee, thinking we would get the same professional service. So much of the items were damaged. We had the adjuster come over to take pictures and we sent in pictures and a list of damages. We just got the letter in the mail. They will not be paying anything. Nice way to treat repeat customers. Do not use if you value your property.

Long-distance move from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Denver, NC

Hire someone else.

They sent a 2 man crew. Took the all day. The boss man, Antwon, was on his headset talking to family members all day long. When it finally came to move our treadmill- he couldn't get it through the store. He said " I'm not suppose to take it apart- but that's the only way. Long story short- we waited until 11 pm - and after 2 hours - Antwon could not put it together. He said to us- "I will have to take the hit" "This is my fault". We just received our denial on claim- along with instructions on caring for your treadmill. Isn't that a nice touch? They did not even offer to have it fixed. We work hard for our things and if you do too- Do NOT hire this ratchet crew.

Long-distance move from Albuquerque, NM to Alexandria, VA

Worst moving company.

I am in the military and have moved about 9 times. This is the worst move in my 26 years of serving in the military. Delivery was scheduled for a week ago. Then they kept telling me to wait a few more days. Then the delivery date was scheduled for this morning. No one showed up and when I called they’re response was they didn’t know what happened. Truck driver then called later and “guarantees” to deliver tomorrow. I don’t believe him or the company. Again..cannot emphasize enough to potential and future consumers..do NOT hire this company. They are extremely unreliable and not trustworthy with your household goods. Unfortunately the military has contracted to the worst possible company. Taking care of our military?? I think not!! Consumers..beware!!

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines, working with Quality Transfer and Storage.

We moved from Maryland State to Washington State in June 2018. We went with Quality Transfer and Storage as the local Agent and Stevens Worldwide Van Lines as the Interstate Movers. Both decisions were very poor choice.

We signed a contact on 01 May 2018. The local agents were to pack up our boxes on the 16MAY2018 and 17MAY2018 load truck and move goods to Washington State with arrival between 26MAY -01JUN2018 or second page said 26May -02JUN2018. When asked for clarification the office coordinator was confused and never responded. We should have known better.

The part of the contract stated that If the company changes delivery dates the customers shall receive 100% of hotels and 50% food or up to $125.00 day for inconvenience whichever is less.

On the 17MAY2018 after our household goods have been moved. We receive a call from the Local agent. She informs us that our goods will not be delivered until the 11JUN2018, no reason why, but she informs us that we will be receiving inconvenience fees. Stunned we hung up the phone and proceeded to cancel airline tickets and rentals.

Since we no longer have anything in the house we left Maryland and drove across country to meet our stuff in Washington, and visited family along the way. We arrived in Washington on the 06JUN2018 well before our stuff arrived. Actual stuff arrived on 16JUN2018 poor communication with the driver. Truck broke down….

But the real fun started when the claim was submitted. The Claims adjuster from Stevens was very rude who proceeds to inform us that it is not customary for us to be submitting hotels that are not in our destination. This is totally fraudulent. I am paying for them to move my stuff across country. How am I supposed to meet my stuff if I am not allowed to drive there? This is the dumbest logic I have ever heard.

Ultimately we were denied all inconvenience payments because on the 17MAY2018 the office coordinator wrote in the database that is visible only to Stevens Worldwide Van Lines and Quality Transfer and Storage. Saying that WE the customers will not be available until the 11JUN2018. That blatant lie cost my husband and I over $2,000 dollars. Keep in mind on 17MAY2018 we still are in possession of airlines tickets and rental vehicles. We NEVER SAID anything about not being available to meet our stuff. When asked for actual proof from us saying we cannot meet the June 11 deadline. There was no record.

We were also denied damages. We didn't want a bunch of local strangers unpacking our goods in our new destination.

Here are some take aways:
* The moving companies are required to provide information on Arbitration. Arbitration is done by the Moving Companies Unions?
* The customers are entitled to take companies to Small Claims Court.
* You the customer must be notified in writing of any delay, a phone call is NOT proof enough.
* US Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 is where you can find the actual information.

My husband & I didn’t think we would have a fair shot. There are time restrictions and moving to a new home takes time. WE have lost the money but hopefully this review can help you.

Long-distance move from Texas to Florida

Stevens- Find Another Moving Company !

I found Stevens on the BBB list as an A rated company and not sure how they got that rating. I left Austin TX on a Monday with a promise my delivery would be in Florida by that Friday. I sat around all day long in an empty house from Fri-Sun calling at least 25x with no return calls. The following Monday, someone eventually picked up the phone and when I said my name the phone went silent. Eventually I heard a voice say "We are sorry. We did not want to call you back because we did not know what to tell you" -Wrong Answer ! He then stated that he did not know when my delivery would be there and they would have to get back to me but he would start at inconvenience claim form and send to me. In short, the delivery showed up much later than communicated, only two people showed up to unpack, boxes were packed with items from all different parts of the house (boxes labeled kitchen were loaded with bedroom items etc)and then my claim was eventually denied. I was told they delivered within my two wk window per my contract. So, if you do not mind being lied to and wasting your time, spending extra time moving boxes around to the correct locations to unpack and going through the frustration of filling out their claim paperwork when you will not be compensated-Might not be a bad choice. Oh - Almost forgot- Missing about 6 items but they do not want to hear about that.. Jason-.

Long-distance move from Washington to North Carolina

Stevens Van Lines are friendly crooks.

Although our agent (employee name removed by company request) was very professional, the other Stevens Van Lines representatives were untrained subcontractors. They didn't show up or call the day they were supposed to (Richard had to track them down) and then arrived unannounced caused me to miss work. Then they (and by they I mean one guy and a kid cousin) threw everything at random inside the house, broke several items, and lost others. We paid a premium price for professional service and got less than other movers offer for $3000 less money. We were reimbursed for the damage/loss but clearly Stevens makes huge profits rather than hiring real movers and delivering on their marketing promises. Even the truck was old and beat up and broke down at the house.
