Simple Moving Labor

To place my order, all arrangements, contacts during my trip (Chicago to Arizona) - that was just a pleasure!

Team in Il area to upload truck - 3 people show on time, very nice, no problem with communication. They did a GREAT JOB. From 2nd floor, 26 ft truck was packed with my son's help in 2.5 hours. NOTHING BROKE! Unfortunately in AZ to unload - 2 people, no stairs, again with my son's help and my strong comments at the beginning they did the job on time.
In general I'm happy that I used Penske's recommendation.
SML is a great company, strongly recommend their service!

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $600

Scheduled a small move 2 weeks before. Signed their "contract". Then, on day of move, 5 mins after they were due, got a call that they were never able to secure movers for my date. But, here's the big news!- they said they never charged my credit card! Whoooppee! Really?! I was screwed.Had to move out of my apartment. Begged Two Men and a Truck and they cam thru like champs. DO NOT USE SML Moving. You will regret. Trust me, no one even follow up called to apologize or anything. Lots of smiling employees on their website which makes me even madder.

Very unprofessional workers, rude, constantly going out smocking, Movers left open space in the center of truck where they just throw boxes and small pieces in the center. All heavy furniture was stuck on one side only, which was unbalanced. After paying $880.00 per 6,5 hours, we realised, there is no way we can send this load to another State. Customers services, manager were useless, did absolutely nothing, after spending long time on the phone and requesting people to come and fix the loading, manager refused all compliance, said "it was your decision to hire us, you signed paper" Yes, we signed paper BEFORE we saw the result!! They offered refund 10%!! We had to hire different people to UNLOAD and reload in the order and balance.
Wasting time and $880.00 We were very disappointed. Also company has a survey form to fill out right there in front of workers, and then they claim tips!! And there is (in this Company) nobody to take responsibility. After all, they offered us 10% discount on the next time we order. I will NEVER use this Company or recommend it. Complete wasting of time and money!!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $880

This company promised to have movers who would disassemble and assemble what I needed them to. Also, they said the movers would shrink wrap at place of move out then unwrap at the new location. Why partial satisfaction? Well, at place of move out in San Diego, the two movers were great. They worked hard to disassemble and wrap everything I needed them to, as well as being careful with my things. Then, when I got to my new place in Fairfield, the movers there were terrible. Extremely rough with all my items, put the boxes and furniture where they wanted when they should ask me where I want the furniture before setting it down. I felt like they were in a huge rush and one mover also was super rough, he even knicked the wall paint off. My dining table was also knicked. That’s not even the worst part. The worst part was they told me they are not allowed to unwrap the shrink wrap or assemble my furniture. What in the world? That’s crazy, because SML promised to have movers do that for me. So basically, they left me with boxes misplaced everywhere, damaged items, and furniture that was taken apart and not put back together. I tried to call SML right away to let them know this problem, but they were already closed. I called the next day and couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Basically, I gave up and cut my losses, but I will never ever use this company ever again and will tell everyone I know the terrible experience that I had.

Here is my timeline and experience with SML.

Picked up my beautiful Penske truck at 7:30 AM and got back home at 8:00 AM. SML movers scheduled to arrive at 9:30 AM.

Called at 9:45 to see where my movers were. SML said they should be onsite and would look into it and call be back in 10 -15 mind. Called back again for an update 15 minutes later. SML said they are still working on it and a manager would call me back very soon.

At 10:32, Meg called to say we are looking for a backup crew. We have 4 others in the area and base on there availability, we will send them over and she would call me back with an update in 30 minutes. I asked about a credit, and she said, yes based on the delay time, SML would discount my labor cost accordingly. She promised to definitely get movers here today. If no call is received from Meg, I plan on calling back at 11:07.

Went online UHaul.com to line up movers. Paid the cost for 2 movers and 4 hours. It was cheaper by about 200 bucks. Put the order in for same day service and got a call from a local mover. He said, he would try to work something out today to get assist.

Called SML back at 11:17 - Pressed 2 to check on my move. Asked for Meg, back on hold.
Could not speak with Meg, but someone else said Meg's supervisor, Michael, is apparently working on my order. They will call me back when they have information. I decided to touch base with SML every 30 minutes, for an update. Next call to SML will be at 11:50.

11:30 AM. Uhaul movers are on there way.

Meg with SML called back at 11:39 to say the original crew was dispatched this morning, but the home office does not know what happens to them. They were having car problems, and apparently the crew has not called in for a status update. Meg said that is strange because they have a high rating with SML. She also said they are still working to get a backup crew scheduled to come out ASAP. Apparently all the SML crews are 1.5 hours driving distance from me and I live 30 minutes from Charleston. Hmmm..

Called SML back at 12:00 PM, pressed two, because I am an existing customer and now I am on hold again. Oh S**T IT'S LUNCH TIME.. After 5 minutes the

UHaul movers showed up at 12:05.

Done with SML - called for a total refund. Confirmed.

Then is started raining :(.

I needed to get out of the apartment I was in on a particular day otherwise if would have told this mover to stop and leave. They were late by 2 hours, I requested a 3 man and he didn't show up for 4 1/2 hours. I had a very expensive $7000 bedroom set that they didn't care about. They were in such a hurry to get to another job they were careless and didn't care how they treated my possessions. This was a company that was outsourced by SML and I would never recommend them.
