Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Chicago, IL

Worst move of my life.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOVER!

I had a binding contract with Republic Moving in San Diego that Don et al decided once they had all of my household goods in their warehouse to attempt to extort more money from me; a violation of the contract. Don told me I either pay more or they keep 1000 lbs of my household goods. He also said that if I did not pay that he would do a web smear campaign against me. They chose the 1000 lbs option and went through my goods and either stole or purposefully damaged a number of items. Josh Newman (the driver who delivered my household goods) purposefully stepped on picture boxes ruining a number of photos; some irreplaceable. He also left his footprint on the walls in the hallway outside my new home; the foot prints on the picture boxes matched the foot print on the walls. Steve (the lead packer) was very rude and insulting. He said my apartment looked like an old woman's apartment, asked if it was my mother's and then proceeded to tell me that I needed to downsize. The people involved were Don Carlson, Andria (manager), Steve (lead packer), Jessica Wicker (horrible scheduler but then she was working with Don Carlson which is a bad idea) and Josh Newman (driver normally with Allied). After unloading my goods in my new apartment and refusing to put the items he took apart back together again and me having to remind him that if a mover takes it apart, they put it back together, Josh said to me "you know why this is being done to you?"

I tried calling multiple times to talk with the President and Vice President (father and son Lovejoy) and have yet to receive a call back. I have moved 9x since 2001 and this is the worst moving company I have ever had to work with. Yes, things get damaged but this move was blatant theft and purposeful destruction.

Please note if you have a history of abusive relationships or have whistleblown and in both instances, they have chosen to stalk you, which is what I have been enduring. Do not select this mover as they will fall for the smear campaign and help in retaliating against you.

Republic Moving of San Diego and Allied Moving are both under the umbrella company of North American Van Lines. My move was at the end of October 2023.

Totaled a Motorcycle; Ignored Written Instructions Where to Put Boxes.

I'd give no stars if that was an option. The mover did not properly tie my husband's motorcycle down, causing the kick stand to get banged into the frame of the motorcycle, totaling the motorcycle. As most of our possessions were very inexpensive, we did not get extended insurance; therefore, we got paid very little for a $5K motorcycle. Our bicycle went with another families possessions. It took 3 trips for the movers to collect all of our moving possessions from the house, even through each cupboard, room, closet was labelled with what was going and what was not. Every box was labeled exactly where to put it in the new house. Every door was labeled with what the room was called to correspond with the boxes. Almost everything was simply dumped in the garage and stacked so high and deep we could not reach them or get to our possessions. This caused us to go for 1 year without knowing where most of our belongings were. I could not have been more disappointed.

Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Dayton, NV

Horrible Moving Experience!

We got three estimates from major moving companies and decided to go with Republic Moving and Storage/North American Moving Services because the representative seemed professional, the price was competitive, and he left a slick brochure that assured us our move would go smoothly. We were assigned a Customer Service Rep who would "work behind the scenes" to make sure it was problem free. The move date was agreed on and our goods would be delivered at the latest one week later. On the afternoon of the move date I called to see when they would arrive and was told the truck broke down, that they could send out one that day but it would require unloading our goods onto a bigger truck the next day. I said I would wait until the next day to avoid that even though it changed our travel plans. The next day 2 small trucks arrived and I was told our items would be put in storage in Temecula until a semi and driver could be found! Everyday we would call to see when our stuff would arrive with no luck. We had to buy air mattresses and chairs and dishes to use. Finally our goods arrived 17 days after the date they were supposed to be picked up, to go 550 miles. We filed a claim and were told we would get a check for $500,take it or leave it.

Long-distance move from Coronado, CA to Sedona, AZ

Terrible Experience

Beware of a company that will not accept responsibility for gross negligence.

First, I acknowledge that it is normal to expect some minor damage in a move. However, you would expect a reputable company to accept responsibility for gross negligence. Having a dining room chair broken in 4 parts is not normal. Ruining a hand woven rug by folding and storing other items on top is not normal practice. Worse is the response I received from Brenda Rayfield, Republic Moving and Storage Claims Manager regarding a missing leather couch.

"Basic coverage is inclusive for any and all loss or damage. If we hadn’t located the couch, yes, it would have been settled at basic coverage of $0.60 per pound, per your contract.”

THEY CAN LOSE YOUR FURNITURE AND HIDE BEHIND $0.60 PER POUND. IS THAT WOULD YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY. THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE USING REPUBLIC MOVING AND STORAGE!

International move from Vista, CA to Calgary, AB

Horrible experience, waiting over a month with no delivery date yet

This company is very disorganized. The process of getting a quote was quite easy and convenient, and while they weren't the most inexpensive company I spoke with, they offered the most comprehensive services and soonest estimated delivery date. After agreeing to use their services, I was then given my own dedicated moving coordinator who quickly admitted to me that she lived in Italy, and had never even dealt with coordinating a move from the US to Canada. She did not know the basic requirements needed to ship things across the border and would have to look them up and get back to me. I then was later contacted by an unloading company in Canada asking if they could come unload my shipment that day when I had not even been packed or moved yet, which was another example of how disorganized republic was. I then suddenly never heard from my inexperienced moving coordinator that lived on the other side of the world again, despite having multiple questions before they were set to come pack/load. A month later after I was promised my shipment would have already been delivered, I found out that my belongings had not even yet left the state that I was originally moving from. It's now been over a month since they originally packed up everything and I still have no idea when all of my furniture and belongings will be getting delivered. However, I'm still getting contacted by multiple uncrating services asking to come help uncrate my shipment that I don't even have here in Canada. At this point it would have been more convenient to throw out everything I own and replace it. at one point when I contacted them, they were under the impression that I had gotten my shipment two days prior. Now they're saying it could be another 2+ weeks. They don't even keep track of the jobs that they're responsible for. It is unacceptable. DO NOT use this company
