Long-distance move from Utah to New York

Plycar Plycon Transportation

I do not recommend Plycar/Plycon for high-value vehicles

Vehicle: 1995 Porsche 911

Route: Park City, UT → Southampton, NY

Incident: May 18, 2025 — Grinnell, Kansas

During transit, the truck continued into tornadic weather and my car was later declared a total loss. In my opinion, this should have been avoided with real-time weather rerouting. Post-incident communication and valuation have been unsatisfactory from my standpoint, and the matter is now with counsel. Based on this experience, I do not recommend Plycar/Plycon for expensive vehicles. If you ship a high-value car with any carrier, ask for a written live-weather protocol and a clear total-loss valuation process before booking. Independent news the same day showed the truck driving into the Kansas tornado, and the NWS confirmed the event as EF-3.

Long-distance move from Hatfield, PA to Steamboat Springs, CO

Very Pleased!!

When I first contacted Plycon for the transport of a large French baker's rack from an estate broker in Pennsylvania to Colorado, I was provided an estimated delivery date and considering this was in the middle of the Covid outbreak, the delivery date was only two days off. They were in the middle of converting their tracking system to one similar to UPS, etc. so it wasn't as reliable as it could have been but email was responded to immediately so I always knew where my item was. It may be helpful to get the contact info for the dispatcher responsible once the freight leaves for your final destination. I worked with Steven Vasquez who was extremely helpful and my driver Howard was THE BEST!! We moved in to our new home in Steamboat Springs in January and have had lots of furniture delivered from all over the country. Some deliveries were better than others but Plycon really was the easiest as far as access to live contacts. My item arrived without a scratch and by the most professional and upbeat seasoned pro I've worked with. Very pleased.

Long-distance move from Colorado to Maine

Plycon Van Lines via 1st Dibs.

Sadly, 1st dibs seem to use Plycon Van Lines.
I have been the recipient twice (or rather after two delays, I am still waiting for the second delivery).
The first time they were just late.
The second time, they made an appointment and I waited five hours. They did not show and I tried contacting them for two weeks daily with messages. No replies, no apologies, no explanations. Finally, I went through 1st dibs customer service. Now I am sitting here waiting again. Still no ability to contact them, no apologies, no explanations.

Obviously, this is a first world problem and there are greater things to worry about but how very unprofessional.

Sincerely
J. Stevens.

Long-distance move from Texas to West Virginia

If you want a caring, honest moving company-DO NOT USE PLYCON!!

I wish I had read these reviews before booking but I booked mine through Budget Van Lines who brokered it to Plycon. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with.I was told by Budget that it did not matter how many pieces I had as it was based on poundage, not pieces (I actually was paying for someone who was moving out, from Texas to West Virginia). Since it was not my belongings, I told Budget I had no idea how much was to be loaded. Was assured by Eric P. (Budget) that as long as I stayed under 2000#, it was the same price. Plycon picked up-on time-driver was very nice but did not speak too much English.Showed me where to sign with 60PCS written at bottom. Never said anything to me about the overage or an extra cost. This was May 6th.On May 24,Rosalee w/Plycon called me to tell me that the load was in CA and would not be delivered until I paid an extra $573.59 because of the overage. Finally had to give in and pay as they essentially held the load hostage and would start to charge me storage after 30 days! They were extremely rude, told me I basically was an idiot if I thought I could add more pieces and not be expected to pay for it. Never would listen to my explanation, never once tried to work it out. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY IF THIS KIND OF STRESS GETS TO YOU. It has really tested my sanity! It is now May 30 and it will not be delivered until June 5-6, one month later. Price went from $1469.55 to $2043.14 for a small dresser, cedar chest, two small end tables and 56 boxes of mostly clothes and miscellaneous household goods. I could have rented a truck, moved it in a week, and saved at least 1/2 of this. I am 63 yo widow and I do not have this kind of money. Just shows you never get too old to learn. Just praying it arrives in decent condition.

Do Not Use This Company.

This company has the absolute worst customer service that I have ever encountered. Their communication is terrible. We contacted them to initiate a pick-up at our warehouse. It took them more than a week to actually confirm the pick-up and that was after I personally had to contact them on 5 separate occasions. They kept telling me that arrangements had been made.. But, when I spoke to our warehouse manager.. I found that was not true. The individuals at Plycon that I dealt with were not helpful.. And, not friendly. Honestly, it really seemed like they could care less whether we used them or not. Our product was damaged in transit.. And Plycon refused to take responsibility .. Citing that the damage was a result of poor packing. That is false. The product was professionally crated by a company that has done nothing but crating for 40 years. The product was inspected and photographed prior to crating.. And the crate was also photographed. After their we submitted all of our documentation, they told us that it was their call and they were not going to help us. Period. This is not the first time that Plycon has damaged our product. We should have learned our lesson the first time. After speaking with other people in our industry, we discovered that Plycon is known for damaging product and not taking responsibility. We advised them that we would no longer be using their company to transport goods.. And that we would no longer allow our clients to use Plycon to pick-up product from our warehouse. Their response to us was "(we) are sorry that you feel that way". Nothing more, nothing less. They never apologized and never even tried to smooth thing over on any level. We have never experienced worse customer service from *any* company. These people are the bottom of the barrel. We highly recommend that you choose another company. There are many. And, honestly, Plycon could care less whether you have their business or not. I guess times are good at Plycon. They can afford to loose clients.

Long-distance move from California to Texas

Moving furniture.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! We had a very expensive bed delivered from California to Texas. The bed arrived in damaged condition, partially due to Plycon Van Lines. I spoke with Michael Pliaconis, one of the owners, regarding the damage. He is the most dishonorable, vile, ruthless business person I have come in to contact with in a long time. He tried to blame all of the damages on the company that sold the bed to us. However, in our email exchange he unwittingly admitted that some of the damage was caused during shipment. After I pointed out his admission, he stopped communicating with me. I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint. As expected, he never responded to the BBB. He did, however, call me and advised that he would pay the contractual rate of 60 cents per pound for the damage. He stated that he would send the file to "corporate" and advise them to cut a check. The bed weighed several hundred pounds and I'm sure he did not count on that. I never heard from him again and never received a check. Michael Pliaconis is a liar and a horrible business person and I would never do business with this company again.

Plycon Van Lines THEIVES.

These guys are the WORST experiences I ever had. They STOLE my daughters carousel horse.
They STOLE artwork. They BROKE so many things that I cried when they dumped BROKEN, DAMAGED furniture, and they never picked up the phone after I paid them $200 MORE than I was quoted.

Total THIEVES! Drunken, reckless, no care for the contents of your home at all.

How anyone could STEAL a child's hand painted carousel horse is a disgrace.

DO NOT use these guys. You'll wind up crying like I did!

Long-distance move from Florida to Pennsylvania

Terrible customer service.

Always had great customer service from Plycon when I lived in Virginia so when I recently needed a piece moved from Florida to Northeast PA I chose Plycon even though they were the most expensive. In trying to schedule the delivery I found the people to be pleasant but unreliable. After several false starts I finally got a date with a 4 hour window, but the night before the delivery they called to push the delivery to well after the window when I can't be here. I called to find out why they are delayed and was treated so poorly by the NY route manager John Maynard I will avoid using them ever again. Pay more and get treated like dirt? No thanks.

Long-distance move from New York to Maine

Reason for 5 star rating!

This company was top notch, beginning with my first contact with Bill Maffei. This was a tricky move since it involved moving to 3 different locations across the country. When my mother suffered a stroke she had to be moved permanently to a nursing home and that meant dividing up all her treasures to her children and grandchildren. We labeled every piece with where it was going and Bill and his very able crew meticulously packed all the items and kept precise records of what was going where. The first shipment went to Maine and it got there in 2 days. The next shipment went to St. Louis and it arrived in 8 days and the last to Ohio got there in 9 days. They were very sensitive to our time constraints and got the shipments to each location within those parameters requested. The movers that packed the items, loaded them onto the truck, and those that carefully unloaded them were all professional and courteous. They handled the items with extreme care and there were some very old and delicate pieces to deal with. Every item at every destination arrived safely with no damages whatsoever. I have moved many times and I can honestly say that my experience with this company was far above expectations. I would recommend this company to anyone without reservation and would use them again in a heartbeat!  I rarely take the time to write reviews on line but this company and the employees that helped with our move were wonderful! .

Long-distance move from New York to Oregon

Horrible Ordeal.

After using Plycon for years they delivered a $3200.00 table to a customer damaged. The customer paid for expedited shipping and still waited 3 months for the delivery. After damage of the table and me refunding my customer they never did anything with my claim. Our sales rep in NY Barry turned out to be one of the worst people I've dealt with to date with no longer speaking to anyone in my firm and making us call an office in Ca. The woman in Ca. handling the claim was supposed to send us photos of the table repaired for 4 months. It is now 7 months later if not longer and I'm out $3200.00 plus I've never received my table back repaired. This is a company I've given thousands of dollars of business to. I will never use them again and would advise anyone to stay away from this firm.

Long-distance move from New York to Nevada

Do Not Hire For The Sake of Your Sanity.

From four months ago (April 8th, 2016) to today (August 3rd, 2016), Plycon delivered my Maitland Smith Antique Center Table 3 times, each time in a worse condition than the previous. The table surface is completely tilted, with two table legs detached from the main center support. I tried to refuse delivery since they've broken the table during dispatch, but I was told the table can be "repaired", thus I have to take back the broken table. They claim to fix it - thus the second and third delivery, but still broken when delivered. The third time was the worst, a beautiful antique table is ruined, and I'm stuck with it.

While I tried to communicate with the admin about the situation over a four months period of time, a lady named Donna keeps on trying to speak over me and interrupting me by repetetively calling me "Honey" in a condescending way. Not only is her tone disrespectful, when there is a conflict of interest and I try to reach her, she would hung up on me on multiple accounts, and wouldn't pick up the phone when I call back. This is the most unprofessional admin I have ever encountered in my whole life.

I had to speak to her boss, who I did get a hold of once, and was never able to again ever since. Then I was referred to their New York Office, where I get to speak to another admin lady once, and was never able to get a hold of ever since. When I complain to the superiors about how Donna is very unprofessional and a waste of my time, I simply got a response saying "she is very green, she does not know what she's doing".. I guess that would justify all the inconveniences and the ordeal that I had to deal with over a four months period of time.

Each time the delivery crew suppose to show up, they don't. In addition, I don't hear from anyone following up with the reason of the no show. A week later, they'd show up. With an attitude, and in an extreme rush, as well as a broken table - every single time.

So to sum up, the admin staff is just plain terrible, the delivery crew has no sense of date and time, and a bad attitude. I'm so fed up with this horrible company, after four months I think it's fair for me to say - DO NOT HIRE FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR SANITY.

Long-distance move from New York to Washington DC

Great Service!!

We just moved from NYC to DC with Plycon. This was hands down the least stressful move I've ever had, and I've moved 8x over a decade. I have a 5 month old, which makes moving even more stressful. They showed up on time and communicated everything in advance. They packed everything carefully for us, the movers there they day of were really nice and helpful. You can tell they love their job and really care about you as a customer. Nothing was broken, mishandled or scratched when we got to DC. They helped us unpack and didn't leave until everything was where we wanted it to be - John even offered to help me set up my highchair! I love this company and highly recommend for any move in the future. Excellent and professional service all around. Thank you Plycon!!

Long-distance move from Alexandria, VA to Chesterfield, MO

ONE OF THE FEW TIMES I'VE LOST MY COOL!!

I had used PLYCON before and was very happy - two large moves, including a baby grand piano and lots of art - one in 1988 and one in 1995. So I called about a household move from VA to STL last year. What a disaster! I scheduled a window for pickup, FLEW TO VA from STL TO BE THERE during the scheduled time, and they NEVER showed. When I called from VA, I was told that I had not "confirmed" the pickup! I proceeded to reschedule with them on a day when I was still there, and still a no-show. FINALLY, after screaming at the operator in the NY office, who really didn't seem to care, I was told that I didn't need to be there and they would take care of everything for me. I was very unhappy about this and rushed to prepack things in boxes that I was afraid to leave to them. Moreover, I had to delay the house closing by a couple of days. The ONLY positive about this horrific experience was that the Chicago personnel, who delivered the load, were really very nice and helpful.

Do not use Plycon for Shipping!

Do not Use Plycon for Shipping!

We recently purchased two handcrafted wooden Windsor chairs with a two tone distressed milk paint finish ($1,400 each) from a craftsman in New York State and had them shipped by Plycon to our home in Northern California. We paid a fee of $770 for the shipment including insurance and white glove delivery service, which includes unpacking the items from their shipping containers, placing the items in the home, and removing all packing materials. At delivery, we were informed that one of the chairs was broken (seat split). The other was ok, but we refused delivery since they were a matching set of chairs.

Dealing with Plycon on this issue was a disaster from start to finish! Throughout the process, communication with Plycon was totally erratic, unreturned phone calls, no communication of delivery schedule, missed appointments etc. We were yelled at and lied to on multiple occasions when we questioned their behavior.

Plycon insisted on taking care of the furniture repairs themselves rather using a professional restorer or the original chair maker, or filing an insurance claim for a new chair. The repairs were totally butchered and unprofessional. The two tone colors of the milk paint finish had not been matched and the distressed look was completed with what appeared to be silver spray paint. In fact, the spray paint also left drips on the seat and covered a few of the undamaged spindles in addition to patches on the seat.

The redelivery of the chairs after repairs was particularly unprofessional. No photos of the restoration work were provided prior to redelivery as promised. We were not notified of the redelivery schedule. Instead they dropped off the crated chairs on our front doorstep when we were not home. They did not unpack the chairs for us so the we could examine and accept the repairs, and they did not remove the shipping materials (white glove service).

Plycon later emailed a copy of the bill of lading that had a signature forged on the “accepted by” line. We found this BOL to be fraudulent and an unconscionable business practice. What they were in effect doing was stating that we had accepted the white glove delivery, and had approved the repaired condition of the delivered goods. Those facts were clearly untrue. At this point rather than continuing to deal with the shipper, we decided to cut our losses and make the repairs through a local furniture restorer a a cost of $500.

As a final note, a Plycon agent suggested that I contact Bill Morgan director of operations in their NY office, but Mr. Morgan had no interest in working with us. After multiple attempts to contact him and leaving two detailed voicemail messages, we have not received any return calls.

In retrospect, we should have read the many reviews of Plycon on the internet before we shipped with them. We advise any potential users of Plycon’s shipping services to read the numerous negative reviews first. Most of the reviewers have had similarly bad experiences with this company. From our standpoint, Plycon has a totally unconscionable business ethic. We will never use them again and advise everyone to avoid them at all costs.

White glove care...awesome service

Today we sent 2 lucite club chairs to CA. Dealing with Daryl the manager was a pleasure, he was very professional, courteous and helpful.

His crew, Sebastian and Cesar arrived early for the pickup and waited patienty until the building released the service elevator. They triple wrapped the chairs, 2 blankets and plastic sheeting. Both men were efficient and careful.

They took Covid precautions and wore masks the entire time. The chairs were placed on dollies and loaded on the truck for their journey.

Well done all!!!
