SCAM SCAM SCAM

This company will scam you. They give you a low quote and then double it when they have your stuff. Do not trust this company or anything they say. You talk to Megan originally and then after you sign a contract you can’t ever get a hold of Megan again. I can’t believe this place is still in business.

Do Not Use.

I received a reasonable quote from them, less expensive than most others - that should have said something. The move was scheduled for Halloween 2017 with an estimated arrival time of 2pm - 4pm. I called and spoke to Carlos at approximately 4:30, since no one had arrived yet and no one informed me they would be late. Carlos let me know there had been a problem with the moving truck at the previous location - that he had to go change spark plugs on the truck. When the movers arrived, they apologized for being late, they said they had been double-booked, nothing to do with spark plugs. The lead mover started off complaining about having to work on Halloween when he wanted to be there with his kid to go trick-or-treating.
They started the move. For this move, I was simply moving around the corner of the nearby intersection. For some reason, they decided to take a joyride in between the two locations. I had gone over to the new place and was waiting for them for at least 15 minutes before I called. They answered their phone and said they had gone to get something to drink and not to worry, they wouldn't charge me for this time. What happened to the guy that wanted to go trick-or-treating with his kid? Not only that, but they were late to arrive and then decided to keep me waiting more.
They were absolutely horrible with my furniture. They broke the top part of my floor lamp completely off. They lost:
Dog food
Wall clock
Dust pan w/brush
Screws for bed
Stole a "Day of the Dead" wreath from my new neighbor's door
Dog ball thrower
Alarm clock
Christmas decorations
Vacuum

They damaged:
Scratched TV stand
Cracked my AC and broke off the side panels
Took a chunk out of my dresser
Left marks on the nightstand
Left marks on the headboard and foot board of my bed
I found my curtain rod outside my old building
Bent the metal pole of my umbrella to a 90 degree angle
The post of my nightstand light was broken off
1st movers to ever leave the couch feet on - and they got scratched
Kitchen table is scratched right in the middle

I called and emailed Carlos many times. He asked how I paid - never gave me any refund. I asked him if anything was left it the truck, he went and checked - some items were still in the truck. He brought those over. A while later I emailed him again asking about the AC unit, how can you "lose" an AC unit, after all? He said it had been sitting there - WHY WOULD YOU NOT TELL ME? He said he would deliver, he never showed. It took a couple times to have someone actually deliver it.

Do not use this company. I have a horrible memory and this was about five months ago, so I have written about the parts I remember. If you are looking for something less expensive than most out there, maybe try Dolly? I've heard good things about experiences with Dolly. Or, just get your money out of it and pay more than you budgeted for movers. I have not received a penny for anything damaged/lost/stolen.

I was cheap and didn't pay extra for the insurance. The company has you go through someone else to get 30 cents on the pound. However, getting anything out of this is nearly impossible. Every little thing on their forms need to be filled out or they will not even consider looking at your claim. Some of this information is very hard to get.

Satisfactory.

So satisfied by the efforts, we highly recommend the In & Out moving and storage company for their brilliant job. The moving was done fast and safely. Peter was the guy who dealt with us. He is so friendly and easy to deal with. Within our estimated time, these guys moved our necessary items to our destination and it was done without any problem. I would love to hire this guys again for any moving needs.

In and Out moving, Conover, NC headache on wheels.

If you're looking for a safe, damage free move do not use In and Out Moving in Conover, NC all
It was a bad joke from the start. Under bid the job then loaded my furniture and said it would cost more. Nothing was wrapped or protected so damage resulted. When I filed a claim (after paying for full insurance coverage) they refused to cover it saying it was either caused by something else or not within their time window to file.
The move cost me 2X more than the highest bidder after factoring in the damages and fee's and I was left with a mess to repair.
Save yourself the headache and hire a pro. I wouldn't hire them with your money.

Long-distance move from Illinois to New York

Awful Moving Experience.

I read good reviews and hired them, but it was the absolute worst experience for many reasons. I moved from Chicago to NYC in May. A few things happened during that move on 5/8/15: 1. They did not deliver 3 boxes. I contacted them that day to let them know the boxes were missing. I also called the driver that night to see if any boxes were left in the tuck - he said no. Then finally on 5/14, after a lot of back and forth with unhelpful customer service reps who cannot be reached by telephone,  I received an email with pictures of my boxes. I confirmed that they are mine and asked for them to be delivered. It took until 5/21 to receive received the boxes. At this point it is past the agreed 10 business days to deliver them. No apologies were made for this inconvenience.2. I had the movers put my 46" LCD TV in it's original box and pack it for the move. It was fully functioning before the move and was only a few years old. When we took the TV out of the box on 5/8 and plugged it in we found that the entire TV screen was cracked. There should not have been any reason for this to happen as they packed it up for me. Pictures are available to show the damage.3. I unpacked a box that had a pillow at the bottom. As I pulled out the pillow I smelled something like urine. Holding the pillow closer I noticed yellow stains on the bottom and on the box. My fiance confirmed that it was definitely urine like. I couldn't even take a picture I was so disgusted. I just threw it all away. After all this I tried to talk to the company about compensating for the TV and what they can do about my lost/ruined things. All they said was to file a claim withmovingclaims.net. It is now July 29, 2015 and I have not heard from In & Out moving and only received an email from Moving Claims saying they received my claim - which btw can only be sent in through postal mail. Do not hire In & Out Moving.

Poor Customer Service and Stolen/Damaged Items.

Where to start? I did not want to use this company because I was worried about all of the 1-star reviews. Due to an issue with my new condo, however, I didn't have much choice as reputable company availability dried up. Everything on the scheduling end was fine. When the moving started, however, so too did the problems. I had a three person crew to move a one-bedroom apartment three blocks down the street to a much bigger unit. The movers quickly went to work, and I thought everything was going well - but I was admittedly distracted by cleaning the apartment as they moved (I had done 95% of the packing - they just needed to disassemble furniture). When we went to leave, however, I noticed that the door would no longer close to my old apartment. The movers had broken the apartment door off of the hinge by forcing a roll of tape into the corner of the door and then forcing the door open. Even that wasn't the worst that happened. When we arrived at the new apartment they could not figure out how to reassemble the furniture. Great - that's the only reason I hired movers. Finally they told me they figured it out - WRONG. When they left my fiance and I were unpacking and we noticed that my italian leather sectional (prized possession which cost my $5k two years ago) was ripped and scuffed in several places (and even had a hole in the leather). I was livid. Then I inspected more materials. A dresser that came with an attached mirror was never attached to the dresser, and instead wedged between the dresser and a wall - so when we moved it, you guessed it, the mirror came crashing down - Great. I also noticed we didn't have my golf clubs. I called the company and complained and they said they didn't have them on the truck. Then I said I saw them move them, and I just so happened to have a snap chat video of the guy picking them up, and I threatened to call the police or take other legal action (I am an attorney). Miraculously, the golf clubs then appeared on their truck, along with some other items that went missing. Then, I noticed my 1200 thread count sheets were ripped to pieces, my bed frame broken and my bar stool broken and inoperable. I tried to resolve all of these issues and Ariel Hersh and Carlos Ortiz have been giving me the run around for four months. I have not resolved yet, but now I am telling everyone so they can avoid my fate. I'll post some of the vitriol they sent me and some pictures. I'll just say that when push comes to shove, I would rather you read this review and contact me to help you move than to use this company. They will not treat you fairly, they will break your things, and they may even steal from you - if you're as fortunate as I was to get the triple whammy. Thanks for reading.

Long-distance move from Illinois to California

Do Not Hire.

I used this company several years ago for a long distance move; turns out my belonging went to a facility in New Jersey where they sat and then reloaded for the trek across the country.  Almost every box was damaged (and they were all brand new quality moving boxes and packed with care; glassware was smashed, somehow a guitar had a hole in it but the case was fine, an entire wardrobe box was missing which contained suits, leather jackets, and formal wear.  The delivery guy was unprofessional and looked like an ex-con and demanded $1000 in cash before lettting my belongings off his truck (which was not mentioned anywhere in the contract).  Luckily I was able to stop payment on my credit card after giving him the cash.  The comapny didn't dispute it but then again they never returned any of my phone calls after the experience.  Total crooks.

Long-distance move from Illinois to New York

Stay away - dishonest business practices.

I was moving from Chicago to NYC and asked someone to come over to give me an estimate, since I really didn't know how many boxes I would. The person came over and gave me an idea on what it would cost, with the caveat that it could be /-10%, totally understandable (and expected).  The day of the move, the total was about 30% higher than the estimate. Clearly not okay since their own representative estimated what it would take! Spoke with the owner Ariel, and he provided a $100 discount for the issue.  I moved to NYC and was staying with a friend for a couple weeks while waiting for my lease to start. I scheduled a delivery on, or after April 1st.  On March 25th I get a call from their dispatch people asking if they could delivery early (apparently they had another truck going out east and would save some money by combining shipments). I responded that I would need to check with the building, since its before our scheduled move-in date. He also tell me ill need to pay for a shuttle $350 extra since i'm in NYC. I asked why wasn't that included in the original estimate, since my address was provided. He tells me that they can't possibly actually look at every request and provide an accurate quote.. okay.     I asked the building about moving in early, and was waiting to hear back when I started getting calls from the the driver saying that he would be there on March 30th and wanted to confirm what time I could accept delivery. I told him I don't even have my keys yet and can't accept delivery without confirming with the building that I could move in early.  They proceed to call my phone all weekend, asking if i've heard from the building and then on Monday leave a nasty message saying that since they weren't able to deliver, it'll be considered a 'missed delivery' and I'll have to pay for a 're-delivery'.  I again spoke to the owner Ariel at LENGTH about this whole situation, and he admitted that although it was bad judgment to send the truck early with another shipment (so they could save on shipping costs), the situation was what it was and they were incurring storage costs as a result and he wasn't able to pay them. I was blown away. I work for a small company and when we roll the dice on something in order to save money, we do so with the full understanding that if we're wrong, we'll have to cover the costs so that its transparent and business as usual to the customer. Never have I dealt with a company that tries to pass on costs that they incur as part of doing their job, that were not included in an original estimate the way these guys have.  Stay away.   Regarding the move itself, both moving crews were professional and did a good job packing / moving. We did have about ~$80 in spare change from a jar that was stolen (when I asked Ariel, never received a response), and a number of items that they diassembled were not reassembled when they were delivered.  One bright note, Ellie in the office was fantastic, responsive and great about communicating when setting up the move.  .

Long-distance move from Chicago, IL to Evanston, IN

In & Out Nightmare.

I had confirmed just a few days earlier that 3 movers would arrive by 8:30 since the $250 elevator was only available between 9 and 11.

1. They were supposed to show up between 8 and 9am, so at 9 I called In & Out and Ellie answered. She said the movers had already arrived so we needed to wait a few minutes for them to arrive on my floor.
2. At 9:15, I called Ellie again who stated that the movers were on their way and would be there in 10 minutes. I asked her why she told me they had already arrived to which she responded that I made up the story.
3. At 9:30, I again called Ellie who said she would check with them, but said I should call the movers myself. She gave me the number and quickly disconnected.
4. I had to call the movers to find out they would not be there for another 20 minutes.
5. Two movers arrived at 9:50 so I called Ellie again and asked to speak with a manager. Carlos answered and said the guy that was supposed to be on my job was killed in a warehouse fire that day. I said that it was obviously awful, but wanted to know when a substitute would arrive since two movers would take so much longer and thus cost me more than the 3 would have. He said a substitute would not be coming and if I didn't like it, I could cancel the move. Obviously this was not an option. I had to pay for another time block for the elevator because they were late and did not bring the appropriate resources.
6. The two movers were good, but there is only so much they can do when the bottleneck is the elevator and how quickly it is loaded and unloaded.
7. Carlos the manager showed up and helped move the couch and in doing so gashed a corner, scuffed the ceiling, and banged into a halogen light which subsequently caught fire.
8. The rest of the actual move was uneventful, but when it came time to pay, I was charged for five wardrobe boxes that I was quoted to get for free.
9. I was charged 40 for tape that I was told was part of the price of the move.
10. We had an emergency come up but the movers would not leave without the credit card confirmation coming from Carlos. So we called Carlos every 5 minutes for 35 minutes until he finally put through the charge.
11. Carlos' manager, Ariel, called me the following day because In & Out made an internal mistake and charged my order through their Boston operation and not the Chicago operation. He asked how the move went and I told him horribly to which he said, well, I can take off $80. The move was a full $250 more than expected from the hourly perspective, not to mention the extra $250 I had to pay for another 2 hours for the elevator.

Worst moving company ever.

My girlfriend used this moving company several years ago and had a great experience so she recommended we use them. I wish we had looked at all the recent reviews though because the quality of this company has significantly decreased.
The 4-man, hourly moving crew arrived over an hour late because the truck broke down on the way to our apartment, not a good sign for things to come. Loading things from our old place into the truck went smoothly and took about an hour.
We purchased a bedroom set that we wanted to pick up on the way to our new place, something Carlos (the owner or manager) told us ahead of time wouldn't be a problem since we were paying by the hour. When we brought this up to the movers they argued with us and said they had a busy schedule that day and couldn't make any additional stops. After wasting time arguing (at $134/hour) they finally agreed to it. Picking up the bedroom set was quick but they took a very long and indirect route to get to the new place, adding more time/cost to the overall move.
The real issues began when we arrived at our new home. We have a 2 piece sectional couch that breaks down in 2 equal halves, the first one they moved without any issues but the 2nd one took almost 2 hours because they got it stuck in the stairwell then the doorway/hallway. While 2 of the movers fought with the couch causing significant damage, the other mover and 'foreman' stood around doing nothing. They could've used the other stairwell to continue unloading boxes/small furniture. This also added a huge expense to the hourly move.
They also caused a large amount of damage due to negligence/laziness including:
1. The door frame and hinges into our apartment unit were bent so now the door doesn’t close properly.
2. Large pieces/gouges in the second bedroom door frame.
3. Large pieces/holes/gouges/scratches in the unit hallway
4. Shattered hallway light fixture
5. Gouges/scratches in building hallway
6. Chunks/gouges in building door frame
7. Couch stained with drywall/paint from forcing it through a doorway without removing the legs/feet
8. Large chunk of grass ruined in back of building due to tires of truck
9. The railing into our unit bent and damaged
The movers also took several smoke breaks and stood right next to the truck so all of the furniture/bedding smells like stale cigarettes.
When they finally finished the move, we argued that we weren't going to pay unless they agreed to repair the damage they caused. They said they weren't leaving until they got paid but that we could file a claim and they'd send someone out to fix the damage. After several weeks of trying to contact them, they finally sent someone out to fix the damage but they only filled in the holes/gouges in the walls and door frames but refused to paint and never fixed the damage to the grass or replaced the light fixture. After weeks of going back and forth, Carlos still refused to accept full responsibility for the damage caused by his movers and wouldn't complete the repairs.
Do not use this trust this company for your move, you will regret it!
