Find a qualified trucking company instead

Five Star Moving Company does not have a good system to estimate cost of move or have any control over final delivery since they are just the broker. Apparently, they don’t investigate the actual movers assign either. When the mover “Road to Load” arrived at my house and evaluated the items moving, they increased the price by $3000. I had already given Five Star a deposit and cancelation period was 3 days prior to move, so I figured I was out my deposit if I turned them away, so I accepted the new cost. They also wanted a money order which I was not told at the time of booking that a credit card would not be accepted. My items were going into storage for the free 30-day time period. When I called the week of delivery to get a time estimate, the mover could not give me one. I was finally told there was a delay, but I would get delivery sometime that weekend, which did not happen, and no calls. I checked the BBB and the mover they assigned to me is rated F! If I am able to get the mover to answer the phone it is one excuse after another. Five Star is not helpful in getting responses either, except in telling me that legally they have 21 business days to deliver and it is a very busy time of year. They did not offer any alternative to get my items out of storage and delivered to me. It is now a month later, past the “21 business days”, and I still do not have delivery of my possessions. I recommend you book directly with a highly rated moving company and avoid the hassle. With what I am paying, I could have used a #1 well know moving company.

I didn't know what I was really doing, especially with the pandemic. I got a call and received probably the most professional and well-mannered individual on the other line who turned out to be the one that got me and my wife to our new home and really earned our business. Very helpful, you guys were honest and told me exactly what I needed to know right I needed to know it.

Save yourself the headache

Review

Do not trust this company or Thomas Downs. The company is a broker and once you pay your $500 deposit, Thomas flips a switch and could care less about you or your move. He will go from nice and professional to petty and useless.

For starters, he grossly underestimated the cost of the move. When I asked for an estimate, he repeatedly told me that I didn’t have enough stuff to move and said I could add things since I didn’t meet the minimum amount anyway. So I did, at his suggestion. Listening to him was a big mistake. The movers tacked on a ton of extra fees and the move wound up costing 50% more than Thomas estimated. I have moved a dozen times in my life and this is the first time an estimate I was quoted ever changed. The difference in the moves? Using this company as a broker.

They make a big show on here about calling them to address your concerns and “they’ll make it right”. Instead, Thomas will take no accountability for anything. When I called and told him I wasn’t informed about extra fees, he said he didn’t have time to go over every “minuscule detail” with every customer and “we partake in nothing a carrier charges”. Think about that. He admits he doesn’t go over everything because he can’t be bothered. And once he has your deposit, you’re pretty much on your own because it’s up to the carrier what you will be charged. He also bragged about how he runs a multi million dollar business (not particularly well, if you ask me), and accused me of trying to sneak things on the truck. *insert eye roll here* This is who you will be dealing with if you have any issues with your move.

Interestingly, I looked at the other bad reviews on here and most of the customers who have negative experiences dealt with Thomas. So proceed at your own risk with him. Or better yet, don’t use this company at all.

Quality work for quality cost

When moving from Scottsdale PA to Ewing NJ my biggest concern was cost and the handling of my possessions. 5 star accommodated both of these issues. These guys handled my stuff like it was theirs. I appreciate that. Would recommend these guys to a buddy. - Vinny

STAY AWAY

They claim that they contract out your move to movers that have positive reviews. Our move was contracted to a mover with so many bad reviews it was unbelievable! Obviously we found this out the hard way. You trust a broker would use a reputable company. Our $20,000 move turned into a nightmare! Many items destroyed and missing. DO NOT trust that they hire the best companies.

Never Received my Items

A move that was scheduled to take 2-3 weeks was never delivered was impossible to get ahold of anyone who had an idea of where my items were. Has been 5 weeks now and we are still missing everything. Including medical supplies. Do yourself a favor and don’t trust this company with your belongings.
