Our experience with First Class Movers has been nothing short of a nightmare. We urge anyone considering this company: DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! PICK ANOTHER MOVER!

Here is a detailed account of the issues we encountered:

• Unresponsive Staff: Hillary, the salesperson who was very pleasant during the initial contact, became unreachable after we signed the contract. Similarly, Dennis, the inventory person, was also difficult to reach and ignored us when trying to provide inventory information.

• Negligence in Inventory and Communication: In attempting to provide a detailed inventory list and photos of our belongings to Dennis, who handled the initial inventory, he repeatedly cut us off, stating that he had "an idea," despite our insistence on providing complete information. He and Hillary insisted that our items were only 300 cubic feet, even though we explained that they comprised 50%-75% of a 10'x20' shed. When the pickup team arrived, the inventory list written on the contract severely differed from what we told Dennis. As the pickup team kept pointing out items that were not on the list, we kept telling him that we did tell Dennis about them. He just ignored us.

• Unprofessional and Demanding Pick-Up Crew: The pick-up team initially consisted of two men, neither of whom spoke English. They later brought in two other men to help. They were rude and very harsh on our belongings and also left their Dairy Queen trash in our yard. At the end, they demanded a tip, claiming they were not affiliated with First Class Movers and deserved compensation for their "quick" arrival (which was only necessary because the initial crew was ill-prepared – not our fault).

• Inflated Cubic Footage: First Class Movers claimed that our belongings occupied more cubic feet than originally estimated, leading to the inflated price. This was a combined result of their inefficient packing of the items into the initial truck (as we observed – things could have been stacked higher/better) and Dennis refusing to speak with us when we tried to itemize and explain the space our belongings consumed.

• Bait-and-Switch Pricing: Unbeknownst to us, the original quote we received was drastically underbid. The final price ballooned from the initial estimate to over triple, and ultimately, we were forced to pay quadruple the originally quoted price. We were informed of the quadrupled price only at the very end, as the crew was packed and ready to leave with our belongings.

• Harassing Storage Company: The storage company badgered us almost daily for a pick-up date, even though we had not yet relocated to our new state or secured a storage unit. Part of the contract was four weeks of free storage. They were calling after one week and were rude and incessant with their calls.

• Lack of Communication and Disregard for Customer Time: On the day of delivery, we were given a delivery window of 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. At 11:57 AM, we received a call informing us that the movers were still approximately two hours away. This lack of timely communication, especially considering that they knew we were waiting in the parking lot of the storage facility, is unacceptable.

• Overcharging and Refusal to Correct Errors: At the time of final cash payment, we were overcharged by $900. When we requested a review of the charges, the movers frustratingly acknowledged the error but only offered to return $800, falsely claiming in broken English, that this was the amount overpaid based on what we gave him. We possess video evidence clearly showing the actual amount paid and that it was an overcharge of $900 (above and beyond the already quadrupled contract price).

• Deceptive Practices and Misrepresentation: In speaking with the delivery driver, he revealed that the company that picked up our belongings was not the same company delivering them. He stated that First Class Movers farms out the delivery to his boss. This strongly suggests that First Class Movers is operating as a broker, a fact that was never disclosed to us and is represented completely differently by them. We also have this conversation on video.

• Overall Disrespect and Defensiveness: Our interactions with First Class Movers were characterized by defensiveness and disrespect. Given the company's numerous complaints on the BBB website, it is ironic that they maintain an A+ rating. It makes me wonder how many other customers have been similarly scammed and have not reported it.

The way First Class Movers and their affiliates manipulate unsuspecting people, who are already stressed about moving is pathetic. Their fancy contracts and fast-talking tactics may make them feel justified, but their service is shoddy and, in many ways, illegal. With our belongings held hostage, they depleted our savings and completely took advantage of us.

Terrible Experience!

Please learn from our nightmare experience with First Class Movers and avoid them at all costs. They are a scam that exploits customers for money.

We were moving 2,000 miles for the first time and decided to hire a moving company. After filling out a form online, we received quotes from multiple companies. First Class Movers stood out because their sales representative, Trevor, promised a smooth, hassle-free experience. He assured us they were more accurate than other companies and wouldn’t charge hidden fees later. He quoted us $4,500 for the move, including disassembling and reassembling furniture.

A couple of weeks before pickup, we updated the quote because the number of boxes had increased from 50 to almost 100. We were told a semi would be used, so there wouldn’t be space issues. However, on the pickup day, they arrived with a 26’ box truck instead. After five hours of loading, they informed us the price had increased to $8,881. When we questioned this, they pointed to discrepancies in cubic feet, and added charges for items like a “trailer lawn mower” (which was just a regular push mower) and a “freezer” (which turned out to be coolers). Despite requesting an updated quote, they failed to send it that day.

By 10 PM, it was clear that not all our items would fit. The next morning, they returned with a rented U-Haul to pick up the rest. They still hadn’t sent an updated quote, but after much back and forth, we finally received it—now over $12,000. With no time to make other arrangements, we settled on $10,595 and paid the 60% due that day.

What they didn’t mention during the sales process was that we should arrange our own insurance. On moving day, we were forced to choose between two options. Option 1 covered damage at $0.60 per pound, meaning a $2,000 TV would only be compensated at $60. Option 2 required us to get our own insurance, but with no time to arrange it, we signed Option 1.

Storage was part of the original quote for $500 for one month, but two weeks later we received a bill for $1,000. We had no choice but to pay. We confirmed the delivery date for 11/25 with them at this time.

A week before delivery, we reached out multiple times with no response, only receiving an automated email on 11/22 stating our items were on their way. The estimated delivery time was unclear, and on the requested delivery day, we received a rude call from Doug, the manager. Instead of offering assistance, he berated us, accused us of not reading emails, and threatened to withhold our belongings unless we paid an additional $20,000. He hung up after each call and refused to answer our questions.

We stopped answering his calls, but after several attempts, we reached customer service. They confirmed our items were being loaded and would be delivered soon, but Doug’s behavior made us suspect that he was trying to scam us. For the next 10 days, we had no idea when our items would arrive. Until we received a phone call the with 24 hour notice of delivery.

On delivery day, the driver was the only representative from First Class Movers. He hired people off Craigslist to unload, and they were careless with our belongings. Many items were dropped, and some were broken or missing. One of the sales promises from Trevor was that they would take apart furniture and reassemble it, but different people showed up to unload, so they didn’t know how to reassemble it.

At this point, it wasn’t worth pursuing further. The damage, stress, and financial strain caused by First Class Movers were simply not worth it. We’re left with broken items, missing belongings, and a deep sense of frustration. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

Above and beyond

Anthony and Andrew did a phenomenal job loading a ton of equipment and personal belongings into the truck. They were professional and worked very hard. I will definitely recommend First Class Movers in the future.

Delay and hostage holding of moving contents

Contents picked up Jan27, '23 and not delivered until April 7th. I checked in each week on delivery date, only to be given endless promises. Delivery only arrived after contact the DOT to pursue a complaint, with significant damage to contents. Referral to their complaint process with CSI has proven uselessly biased against the consumer.
