Coastal Moving Services

I would strongly encourage anyone considering this moving company to proceed with caution. If I could leave zero stars I would.

Before booking, I provided the booking agent with detailed information about the move, including descriptions of three large bedrooms packed floor-to-ceiling with boxes and an itemized furniture list, I also expressed to him that I had just had a very disappointing experience with another moving company the day before. He seemed very sympathetic to my situation and assured me that this is not how his company operates and that I would be in good hands. He even asked me to write down his “direct line” and call him on the day of the move with any questions or concerns.

However, when the movers arrived on pickup day, I was informed that the shipment would require dramatically more space than previously estimated and that the cost would increase by thousands of dollars. Of course the booking agent was nowhere to be found, and I was actually told by a customer service rep that I was "not allowed" to speak with him.

Because I was coordinating the move for elderly individuals on a fixed budget, these last-minute increases made the move financially impossible and I had to cancel. When I requested a refund of the deposit after canceling, the company declined to provide one.

The initially quoted price bore very little resemblance to the amount ultimately demanded on moving day. I cannot and will not recommend this moving company. Consumers be warned! If you should decide to use this company, please carefully review all documents, understand the cancellation terms, and be prepared for the possibility of significant price increases after booking!

SCAM! Do not hire these movers. Alisha, the saleswoman underquoted at $5k for a long distance move, to get my business. I was quoted $10k by another company. I asked her why the discrepancy in price. She LIED and said the other company did not specialize in long distance moves so they charge double.

We went over inventory in detail. Then get a call from Jacob, who I go over the inventory again with. He tacks on another $2k, says there were items missed from the first quote. I argue there weren't. He assured me that if the truck is not full, we won't pay the extra $2k.

Movers get there (a different company) they're halfway through packing, call us to come home to tell us that the total is actually going to be $12k! Items were missing from inventory list that they showed us, which they were. Jacob did not include everything I had told him over the phone and he ordered 40 medium boxes. We needed double that apparently. I'm not the expert, how am I supposed to know how many boxes are needed! They have half of our things on the truck already, we're stuck and they know it so we had to sign off on the new price in order for them to finish.

We called Coastal Moving the next day and explained the situation, that this is unacceptable. How do you go from a $5k estimate to $12k?! Mind you, we lived in a 2/2 1100 Sq ft house, with barely anything. I am still waiting for a call back, 4 weeks later, after calling three times. I am reporting them to the BBB and leaving this review on every website imaginable.

Save yourself, time, money, and aggravation. This company preys on people. They should all be ashamed.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Coastal Moving Services. Initially, the price seemed reasonable, but upcharges quickly piled up—first during inventory review, then again when movers arrived for a simple walk-through, and later at the destination due to parking and step count. Communication was nonexistent; no one could provide accurate information on when my belongings would be transported from Arizona to Virginia. Instead, my property unexpectedly arrived an hour away while I was out of town, forcing me to rush back.

The movers did not speak English, making coordination impossible, and the dispatcher seemed solely focused on demanding additional charges. To make matters worse, the condition of my items was appalling—white objects had turned black from filth, suggesting unsanitary storage or transport conditions. The salesman, who was supposed to assist throughout the process, disappeared entirely, ignoring calls and emails.

Having moved numerous times, this was by far the worst experience I've had. I strongly advise others to beware of Coastal Moving Services.

Avoid Coastal Moving Services. My wife and I paid them $3,625 upfront on a $7,500 interstate move from Las Vegas to Acworth, Georgia, with pickup scheduled weeks later. Before booking, we were also quoted about $1,900 to transport our Subaru Crosstrek.

After they took our money, communication became frustrating, and we were eventually told their auto-transport department couldn't work within the budget we discussed before we booked, and they raised the car price to $2,400!

We also learned more about the delivery timeline and the fact that Coastal is a broker, not the actual moving carrier. Their own paperwork says another carrier would perform the move and that their document was an estimate, not the actual moving contract.

We canceled on October 3, about three weeks before the scheduled pickup. Nothing was packed, loaded, stored, transported, or delivered. Despite that, Coastal refused to refund any of the $3,625.

What makes this even more infuriating is that Coastal publicly says, “We’re happy to work with you to find a fair solution. Options may include partial refund, compromise.”

In our case, they refused any meaningful attempt at a compromise or partial refund. Based on my experience, I would never use Coastal Moving Services again.

If you are considering them, get EVERY promise in writing, understand exactly what you are paying a broker for, and read the cancellation terms extremely carefully before handing over thousands of dollars. They don't care about you... Only your money.
