Long-distance move from Scottsdale, AZ to Tampa, FL

Warning

We hired Adam's Van Lines for our interstate move from Arizona to Florida. We did not know they were a moving broker. We had a contract with them but they bid out the job to MoveR Van Lines and that company breached many terms of our initial agreement. Additional costs, inexperienced crew, did not provide big enough truck, did not move items properly, held items hostage until cash payment was given, damaged a significant number of items, and was a disaster of a move. Adam's Van Lines did not uphold our agreement, did not abide to their advertised promises, and did nothing to assist us. All talk and no substance. Made for a terribly stressful and awful moving experience. Don't hire them to move your family, but if you must then get as much extra insurance as possible because you will need it.

Long-distance move from Albany, NY to Cocoa, FL

Horrible company - DO NOT USE

I am very sorry we went with this company for our cross country move from NY to Florida. We ended up paying twice as much as the original quote for a total of $14,000 AND they did not move a safe they TOLD US would be no problem to move. They sent a crew and equipment unable to handle the items listed. The company then lied to us, telling us they would find someone for the job, only to ghost us and give us false contact information after they were paid. This company is absolutely awful and their costumer service is deceitful. Please do not hire this company. Moving is stressful enough without have to deal with scams and incompetence.

Long-distance move from Los Angeles, CA to Frisco, TX

Stay away from this company!!

One of the worst companies I've dealt with ever. I hired them to handle my move from CA to TX. Their sleazy sales person will quote you a very low price to get your business. They then sell your job to a 3rd party moving company to the lowest possible bidder. The actual company that will show up to do your move will be very shady and then force you to pay a much higher price then what Adam's Van Lines quoted you. Adam's now has your deposit that you won't get back so you're stuck with using this other company that shows up and asking for a much higher payment. What you agreed to or signed with Adams does not matter at all. My moving cost went from $6800 to $14000!!! Then finally, after waiting for 3 weeks for my items to arrive in TX, an even shadier character called me saying that he was going to deliver my items but that their 53' semi truck can't make it in our street even though I know that's a 100% lie because there are semi trucks coming and going on my street all the time due to the construction happening on my street. The shady character, who is just another 3rd party vendor, then demands another $2k to "unload and load in to a smaller truck" or you don't get your stuff back. To add insult to injury, they damaged my brand new floors and lost several boxes. Do not, I repeat, do not hire Adam's Van Lines to handle your long distance move. Once they have your deposit, you will never hear from them again. They don't return phone calls and take zero responsibility for your move. Worst company ever!!

Long-distance move from Arlington, VA to New York, NY

Don't use these hacks,

I moved in Sep 2022. I chose flexible move dates; I was assured that I would get at least 24 hours notice before the movers arrived. I got a call Friday at 1:30pm, the first day in my flexible move window, saying that the movers would arrive the next day between 9am and 12pm. Less than 24 hours notice, but I was ok with it.

On Saturday, my moving day, I received a call from the mover at 8am saying they were on their way and would arrive at 2:30pm, well past my scheduled window. Throughout the morning and afternoon, I received four calls from someone named Yuri (move coordinator?) asking me if the movers had arrived yet. I have no idea why he didn't just call the movers.

The movers arrived at 3:45pm: well past both the original window and their estimate that morning. I met Eric, who was one of the two movers on the truck, at the loading dock and we rode up in the elevator. We didn’t even get all the way to my apartment from the elevator and Eric informed me that it’s a “long haul,” and charged me more than $300 because my apartment was so far from the elevator. Eric made multiple comments about how his boss is Jewish and all about the money; this was not okay.

On Monday morning, the movers call to say they've arrived. Eric says “you’ve got a long haul hon, meet me at the corner of the street.” My mom was with me at the time so we met them at their truck at the corner. They inform us that they can’t park on my street, so they charge me another $300 before they’re even out of the truck! I get on the phone with Yuri to discuss what we can do, and he says that the possibility of an extra fee for a long haul was “in the contract.” That was his answer to everything: “It was in the contract—that you signed.” He says that I could have gotten a permit to reserve a parking space on my street to avoid the extra fee, but NYC doesn’t always allow that. Then he says “well I know QA went over that with you and all the calls are recorded, I can find the recording if you like.” What a patronizing way to treat a customer who paid you over $2000.

The movers then gave my mother their measuring device so that she “believes” the movers when they say it’s a long haul. Beyond condescending. They knew they had leverage because all of my things were in that truck and I had to start work that day; I told them to unload the truck.

My mom and I got back to the apartment and the movers started to unload. With the first batch of my things that came in, I could tell that some items were damaged. My office chair was ripped; the floor lamp cover was hanging from a wire; the dining chairs were chipped; boxes were crushed. Easily $500 worth of damaged furniture.

Eric comes in with the third or fourth load and asks if I’ve paid yet. I say no: I don’t have nearly all of my things yet and there’s a lot still on the truck. Eric said that his boss, Adam, is texting him asking if I’ve paid. I said I’m not going to pay until all my stuff is in the apartment. Next thing I know, I’m on the phone with Adam because the movers supposedly couldn't continue to unload until I paid.

On the phone, Adam was rude, condescending, greedy, and hostile before I uttered a single word. He said the movers wouldn’t continue to unload until I’ve paid, and when I said that I didn’t pay until the end of pickup and I won’t pay until the end of dropoff, he threatened to put my things in storage. I reiterated that I would not pay until I had all my things and could see the state they were in. He responded with “look, like we said when we picked your things up in Miami…” I came from Virginia: He didn’t even know or care who he was talking to! Then he hung up on me, I couldn’t believe it. He wasn’t even doing the work, and at this point he already had two-thirds of my money with the rest of my payment—PLUS an EXTRA $300—on the way. I don’t know what he had to be upset about, but at this point I had never been so angry at any service provider in any industry, and I mean that.

So, I withheld payment until the movers delivered what I thought were all of my things. The movers continued to unload and my mom made them coffee. She asks how the coffee was; Eric says it’s “shitty.” What a great guy!

They unloaded all my stuff and I paid them promptly, including the extra $300. They left with the coffee, water, and donuts that we had bought them. I had been planning to tip them as well, but all the tip money when to the surprise long haul payment (they would only accept cash).

Pickup happened a week ago and I’ve been in the runaround with customer service for four days. What little information I have makes me think that my move was contracted out through a separate company called Reliable Moving Services.

I move every two years. Things break. Nothing is ever on schedule. Nobody—movers or customers—are at their best. But I have never had an experience like this. I feel cheated patronized, taken advantage of. Never again.

Moving Broker

We hired Adams Van Lines for our cross country move from Arizona to Florida. Their customer service was good from first contact to the quote and contract, and then with our post-move followup. They are a moving broker so we, unfortunately, did not get them to move us. The contract company we got wasn't good so be sure to ask questions about what companies are bidding out your moving contract.Adams customer service was friendly, helpful and responsive. Our move would have been better if they had moved us.

Long-distance move from California to North Carolina

Cross country move

I contracted with Adams Van Lines for my move from California to North Carolina. Being a veteran I have made many moves across town across state across country and around the world.

This is the worst move I have ever encountered.

Per our contract there were to be three payments, one upon signing contract one upon pick and one when goods are delivered. Sub pick up my goods altered the name on my check cashed it and now demanding to be paid again. My goods are in California being held hostage and I’m in North Carolina. I have emailed texted made phone calls and keep little or no response and when I do the answer is always the same,( That’s Not My Department).

Long-distance move from Omaha, NE to Alexandria, VA

Horrible experience

This company is a scam and should be shut down.

They gave me 2 different quotes (one included my couch, one did not). It was a $300 difference without it. When they came to pick up my stuff I decided to not take the couch and a couple other misc things. They charged me for it anyway. On the invoice upon pick up the total was $2607.13. I paid $1082.21. They said I owed $1998.64. That math ain't mathin. I called them to explain this and they said the total goes by what the total was on my previous invoice? They said I had to pay the $1998.64 regardless or they wouldn't deliver my stuff.

I asked to speak to someone about how my invoice was incorrect. They gave me a phone number to call and they answered and I said "Hi I'm trying to talk to someone about my invoice." They said "Invoice? Is this Christine?" I said, "yes they told me to call you about my invoice." They said, "Uh invoice? Idk. You have the wrong number" and hung up the phone. But he knew my name?

I call back the guy back who gave me the number and tell him its not correct but they guy knew my name and he gave me a different number. That number was the number of the driver I've been talking to this whole time about my delivery. The driver who told me to call Adam Van Lines about my invoice. Therefore taking me in a circle just to [EDIT] with me I assume.

I sent emails with the invoice I received and no one could help me understand why the math was incorrect or why I was paying extra for things I didn't end up taking. They said I would have to pay and could file a claim later and that I should have told them on delivery that things had changed. The guys picking up my stuff didn't tell me this when I said not to take items. They just said ok.

I was moving from Nebraska to Virginia. No one notified me where they were in transit. I just got a call that they had arrived. I was not in Virginia yet. They told me they could send me the invoice via email and I could print it and sign it. I explained I don't have a printer and there was a big winter storm that just came through and it was not safe to drive. I asked if they could send it via docusign. He said no. They told me I could send payment via Zelle and I could have a friend sign off on the delivery. I had never used Zelle before and was not aware there were limits on how much you can pay per day. They never told me this either. I was only able to pay half and asked if I could pay him the rest via venmo or cashapp. He said no and refused to unload the truck before getting full payment. He said I would have to pay by card. I asked if he could refund me the $50 fee he was going to charge me as I did not plan on paying by card. He said no.

When they finally charged my car, they over charged me $575. I called to explain and he said he would refund it. No apologies. No time frame of when they would refund it. An hour went by and it was still not refunded and I had to call again. He finally refunded it.

My friend send me the invoice upon delivery. They WHITED OUT the total amount to an increased amount - $3081.15. I was also missing a piece of my bed frame and am not able to use it at all because it's the bottom piece. I called customer service to file a claim. They directed me to a different department. That department sent me an email. I explained everything by email and they said "Thank you for providing us with this insight on your move, and our apologies that you were not happy with your experience. Unfortunately, the Claims company is unable to dispute a charge signed for on your contract with Shield Moving. This type of dispute would be filed with Shield and their Claims Department per their contract. We are happy to assist you with the missing bed frame piece if you would like us to submit the claim for this for you? Just let us know."

Interesting that an Adam Van Lines employee told me to file a claim with them. Not Shield Moving. When I contacted Shield Moving, they told me to contact Adam Van Lines. I sent screenshotted emails of what Adams Van Lines said to me about Shield Moving. Ghosted. I sent screenshotted emails to Adam Van Lines about what Sheild Moving said. And Adam Van Lines employee sent me an email for dropbox that had Sheild Moving's name on it. The document said they would give me a whole $42 for my missing piece of my bed frame and that I would agree to take down any negative reviews. For $42 yall.

What they fail to mention to you up front (although they tell you later when they seemingly can't help you with anything) is that they're not actually a moving company. They're a broker who hires cheap labor movers to do the job for them. And when things go wrong, they just blame the movers and take no responsibility.
