Long-distance move from New York to Ohio

Highly recommended.

It was quite a different day for me. Had all my items wrapped and moved out of my apartment on the truck in about three hours only. It was wonderful. They made the process seamless and enjoyable. The guys worked exactly how the move should be. They took apart and reassembled big furniture. They were especially helpful with my circumstances as I requested them to pick from multiple locations. The total experience was flawless. There was no headache throughout the move. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Moving Company.

I have to compliment Velocity Moving and Storage. I contacted Velocity on a move and they were amazing!! They were on time, professional and a pleasure to work with. I recommend them for all your moves! They wrapped everything securely including mirrors and were on time delivering my stuff and performed quickly. Everything was in tact and all I can say is that they were amazing and very very reasonably priced. The guys who picked up and delivered were great. It was easy and stress free!! 5 stars!!

Professional and inexpensive.

Those moves are are professional and relativity inexpensive given their high level of service and top of the line equipment they use for moving. This was my first experience using movers in the NYC area with a full service moving company. I selected Velocity Moving & Storage based on numerous positive reviews I'd seen elsewhere, as well as pricing that was much more competitive than other companies I'd researched. Jennifer was quick to reply to my initial quote request and was always very friendly during our interaction. On moving day, the movers (Carl and his team) arrived promptly and were very friendly and professional. They had the truck loaded fairly quickly, but took care of my furniture and made sure everything was well wrapped and taped (which were included in the price!). Transportation and unloading into my new apartment was also relatively quick. The entire process did take about two hours less than the original estimate (so it even cost me less than planned). Overall, I am extremely satisfied with their work, and will definitely contact them the next time I move.

Dreadful.

October 16, 2014. Well, this review will be a multipart series, as I will give the account of my continually adventurous experience with Velocity Moving and Storage. To begin, though, is my last email received by the company's frontman, Oliver, that sums up the journey I've taken with this crew, a reply to a photo I sent of my dress shirts, rolled into a ball and ruined and stuffed into a box next to electronic equipment.  I'll post links to these photos soon. "Jeffrey, We are sorry for that. However, we can't confirm weather this box was boxed by us or was already packed prior. In any event, as mentioned before you can file a claim for your damaged goods." There you have it. Other secret movers stealthily opened taped boxes while in transit. Always happens, right? So there you go. I'll post correspondences later regarding the 100 yo antique table broken in their possession and a living room chair, water damaged and mildewed and ruined in their possession as well. Oliver was kind enough to forward me a link to address this: mymoveclaim.com, along with the always-litigious-sounding suggestion that I may have staged the terrible packing and myself or others destroyed furniture and clothing. That's what happens at Velocity. Obviously in hiring movers, we have to accept our role in the theatre of it all: Movers give an estimate w/out other costs. We sign contracts unexplained, etc. Then things get pricier as the process envelopes. It happens. With every moving company. Some are worse than others, of course. Others shouldn't be in business. I'll write more about this experience and share it with as many people as possible, which is a gift of social media. But I'm still sorting through my stuff over here. This company was hired by an associate of mine to pack and move my possessions from NY to LA. I mention this because on several occasions where I had challenging communications with Oliver he would say that if I didn't like the terms I can come to his facility in the Bronx and get my stuff. Then I would say "Oliver, you're holding my possessions hostage." This would upset Oliver, and he would tell me that that is a lie. I would explain that as I am 3,000 miles away from the Bronx, picking up my stuff from him would be impossible and, thus, he is holding my possessions hostage. I would further explain that asking nearly impossible terms in retrieving something is the mainstay of hostage taking. Oliver disagrees so perhaps he's right. He wasn't holding my stuff hostage, after all. The most important part of sharing my experience is I am staring right now at ruined furniture and possessions that weren't so seconds before Velocity Moving and Storage came to pack and ship them. All you really need to know for now. Well, more to come. Good luck with moving, everyone.

Very impressed.

I have used Velocity Moving to move my house last month and I was very impressed with their level of professionalism and customer service.
The moving team was very professional and easy to work with. They showed up on time and worked very hard. Although it was a very cold and snowy day, they did not stop until the move was completed. They protected all of my furniture and handled them very carefully.
They also did assemble and reassembled all the furniture without a problem.
Their price was very competitive and transparent. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a trustworthy moving company.

Long-distance move from Boston, MA to Minneapolis, MN

I got my stuff, all else was rough

I'll start by saying that I did end up getting all of my things.

However, this is a 5 star review because the below message would not post when I attempted a 2- and 1-star review.

THE CONDITION of my things, especially the things that were packed by the movers, was rough - lots of chips, scrapes and dents in my furniture (dining table and chairs were especially bad, and a piece of my brand new west elm wooden bedframe was broken), and the boxes I had packed were very banged up.

THE COST, despite the salesperson reiterating over and over that I was below the minimum amount of things and some additions would not increase the price, ended up being $800 greater than what I was quoted. Additionally, despite sub-par service (outlined below in the communication paragraph) the movers at my pickup location scoffed at the $20-per-person (for 3 movers, for a 1 br apt) tip I gave them, and argued that it should be more.

THE COMMUNICATION: I'm breaking this into a few subsections, because there were several areas where this was a very poor experience.

- Once I paid my deposit, I heard very little by way of timing or expectations from the company, despite several check-ins and follow-ups. Additionally, I kept getting different answers as to how much money was owed at pickup and drop off, which is particularly frustrating given you need to pay in cash or cashier's check at drop off

- When the pickup movers were on their way, they said they couldn't find my address. Later when review the paperwork, I realized why: my street name was spelled wrong despite my correcting it several times with the organization. The foreman who ran through the paperwork tried to rush me through it - waving off any questions I had until I pushed. The movers also did not have the correct item list for my move, nor did they expect to pack several of the things I was assured were part of my quote (lamps, mirrors, etc). I'm still not sure if that was a ploy for the price hike or an honest miscommunication - either is unacceptable for a logistics-based company.

- I also was told by the salesperson that I would get my things within 2-14 days of the PICKUP. Once my things were packed, they "reminded me" that the delivery is 2-14 days from the day I note that I'm ready to receive my delivery. So, instead of my things arriving a couple days after I was in my new apartment, they arrived more than a week after I was in my new apartment. This was avoidable and a waste of money, as I'd made housing plans based on their previous promises. OF NOTE: when I checked in on the Friday prior to the "Some time between Sunday-Thursday" range they'd given me earlier that week, I was met with an auto-reply message about their policy of providing timing details only 24 hours in advance. Only after I asked (politely! I swear.) if they would be able to give a narrower window, or at least an idea on when they might be able to follow up with more timing details, I got a vague "this weekend" with no clarity on whether that was in regard to the drop off or when they'd have more information.

Overall, I was treated poorly the entire time, and it was far more expensive than it should have been, both in the cost itself and the separate arrangements I had to make due to their poor communication. I highly recommend going with a different, if even seemingly more expensive, option.

Long-distance move from New York, NY to Seattle, WA

Half my stuff is missing

Booked a NYC to Seattle move with international van lines that was subcontracted to Velocity. On moving day we were up charged $3000 despite having a thorough estimate from international van lines. Initially our moving consultant told us our belongings should arrive close to our first available date given that we were giving them over a month for transit. When our first available delivery date came we called and were told they had no timeframe for delivery. Ultimately our stuff arrived close to the end of our 21 day window. In fact we found out it hadn’t left New York until well over a month after it was packed. Where was it all this time? We were told storage was not required for our move. The delivery company insisted on coming on a Saturday despite the fact that we informed them many times we had a wedding to attend (our only out of town obligation this month). My wife was forced to miss the wedding to accept delivery. They were unable to work with us on this and then charged us another $850 for a shuttle. Ultimately when our stuff arrived over 20 boxes were missing as was a mattress, end table, portions of our bed frame, our peloton bike, ski equipment, and this list goes on. This is a huge fraction of our items! How do these go missing? We still have nothing to sit on and no bed to sleep on. They also insisted on full payment in all cash. So now we’ve payed almost double our initial estimate for delivery of roughly half our belongings close to 3 weeks after we expected. My only hope is that we can recoup the cost of these items plus damages. I will be contacting a lawyer. Do not use this company.

Long-distance move from New York to Connecticut

From NY to CT.

Excellent movers; arrived on time in NYC for pickup.  Delayed through no fault of theirs because of access to freight elevator.  Arrived in CT earlier than expected.  Cost ($626.00) was reasonable and less than I expected.  Received estimates from other moving companies that were more.

You Will be Sorry!

THEIR SERVICE IS THE WORST! THEY HELD ONTO MY BELONGINGS FOR 17 DAYS! THEY LIED TO ME EVERY STEP OF THE WAY ABOUT DELIVERY. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NASTY. THEY ACTUALLY HAD TO CONTRACT SOMEONE ELSE TO DELIVER MY THINGS. THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A TRUCK! IF YOU USE THIS COMPANY YOU WILL BE SORRY.
