Trucks on Call Moving and Storage

My move started off by speaking with Alfonse to give my quote and schedule my move. He was very professional and I really liked the fact that he was up front and honest about the charges that would be incurred. The movers did arrive to my house later than expected, however, in that business if a customer has more to move than they claimed it will take the movers longer than they thought, so I did not hold the company responsible. The foreman did call me and explained that they would be later than expected and was very apologetic and professional. I moved out of a 2 bedroom basement apartment with very large furniture that had to be walked through the back yard into the truck to a three level town home in the city where they had to park about 200 yards away to walk down a narrow sidewalk and take most of my stuff up a very narrow, curved staircase. They managed to get everything where it was supposed to go and surprisingly did not put a mark on the wall or damage any of my furniture. They did have to take some time to disassemble some items so they would fit, however promptly reassembled as soon as they got it into the room. The guys worked very steady and there was no standing around or taking breaks- would not even take a break when I offered them water in the heat.
The price they quoted me was exactly what I paid due to Alfonse having me go through every item that would be moved.
I was very impressed and just scheduled them to move my mother from MD down to FL.

I must warn you of this company and for you to think twice about moving your personal belongings and valuables with Trucks on Call.

Do NOT fall for the allure of the low quoted price. After explaining the number of boxes and types of furniture over the phone, I was quoted well below the average for moving across the country (DC to California). Without them actually coming to your house/apartment to assess, it is truly impossible to get an accurate estimate. Upon moving day and packing into the truck, the true price was 70% above the quoted price on the phone call. Since its already on the truck and I was moving the next day..they had the upper hand and really nothing I could do.

It was to take upwards to 21 business days to obtain my belongings, but would receive a call once the shipment was a day away. I was told by the movers during packing that it would take about 7 days for the truck to arrive. No tracking number is provided and no notice/updates are provided, so I was kept in the dark about actual location of my items and expected shipping date until I called with questions about my shipment. I received my phone call that the truck was a day away about 10 business days into the shipping time, which allowed me to arrange work schedule and timing. The expected date arrived and my shipment did not come in despite the phone call of impending delivery..few more days rolled by..no notice or update, and no consideration of the customer awaiting shipment. I got in contact with the office in DC of the issue and non arrival and was greeted with an email that despite the initial phone call of delivery, the continued delay still fell within the pending timeframe, not taking into account the trouble it took to be available for the shipment. It took 17 full business days for the shipment to arrive..7 business days after receiving the initial call.

The company will make the most of the 21 business days to ship, filling and dropping shipments along the way, making the most of the truck and the distance.

Upon arrival, quite a bit of damage had fallen on my items. Several boxes, labeled fragile, contained shattered glass and items. I was missing a box, which was accounted for by the "middle man" shipping company during transit. Lastly, the movers were clearly in a hurry to make another shipment drop, and when attempting to reassemble my bed, they incorrectly reassembled my bed despite my providing them the instructions, forced incorrect screws into the bed frame, and damaged the frame because of it. Clear scratches were visible on my furniture. I signed the finalized document of shipment with notice that a box was missing and damage was done, and that I would be filing a claim.

Upon filing a claim, the company did not take responsibility of the missing box and did not take into account any of the damaged boxes, time issue, or complaints. I called the company in regards to the issues and was greeted with disdain, stating that my quote was excessive and they had no responsibility. He had not information of the quality of my furniture/items, and made an ignorant judgement. Of my claim, which Trucks on Call DOES have responsibility of reviewing and assessing along with the claims department, I only received a minute fraction of the request.

This company provided no respect or care towards myself or my shipment. Do not use Trucks on Call.

Move size: Studio Service cost: $2100

Moving in the same town can be stressful, but across the country can seem like a big task. Every phase of their team were polite, professional and very efficient. The moving consultant came out to perform an in home estimate. He was able to answer all of my questions, gave me great tips for my move, and most importantly gave me an accurate estimate. When the movers came out they were very efficient while taking care of my family’s items. A few days after my move I got a call from management in regards to delivery. All in all something that normally would be a stressful situation became stress free. I would definitely recommend!

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8500

My story is pretty much the same as others who were dissatisfied with Trucks On Call. Except, they raised my rate 5 times my original quote, and are refusing to release my things unless money is deposited into a personal account of someone I’ve never spoken to. They refuse to give me a date of delivery and threaten me each day to auction my things.
I’ve had to involve the police and now and a lawyer. I have to hire another company to go retrieve my things.
I understand they are in violation of licensing laws so don’t use them. You’d be better off moving your belongings yourself.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5447

We paid for a full pack and move, but received neither. I was told we would just sit back and drink coffee while they packed and loaded the truck. They showed up with 3 movers to pack and load a 4 bedroom house. On top of that, the movers showed up with a partial full truck and could not fit all of our items on the truck. After 9 hours they informed us the truck was full and they were going to leave. When we asked about the items not loaded, they had no plan on how they were going to resolve. Fearing they would hold our goods hostage and increase the price, just as other reviews had stated, we told them they are not taking our items. There were no managers available when my wife and I tried to reach someone to resolve. After 45 minutes the trucking manager, Sam, called from his house to tell us his guys were taking our stuff and that was that. We had to call the police to prevent them from taking our items. The police had to inform Sam that if his movers took our stuff, they would be arrested for theft. They no longer had permission to move us. After another 3 hours, they finally unloaded the truck and we had to find new movers. I am not fighting to get my deposit back as they did not move us.

They are rude unprofessional scammers! Was given a quote..they came to pick up my things and price jumped even though I removed things from original quote list. Was told they would need to pick up my things at least a week before my move in order to guarantee delivery when we got to Florida. Was disrespected by Sam..he told me he didn't care about my complaint or if I call the BBB. We habe moved and they have all our belongings. Every time I call I'm told there is still no trailer to bring my things to me! Gonna tell them they can keep my stuff ..We will just start over! Not giving them anymore of my money! Stay clear of this company! Wish I would've!!

This is the WORSE moving company EVER!! DO NOT waste your time, money or subject your belongings to this company. The representative lied from the very beginning quoting me a low ball rate and then when the movers came, they more than doubled the cost and even threatened to stop packing the truck as the cost and amount of items were more than what the representative had quoted me. They even charged a fee for me using my credit card, which was not told to me until they day they picked up my furniture. The are all NASTY NASTY NASTY people and have absolutely NO customer service skills because it is only about ripping off the customer. This company is a scam and so is their insurance coverage. Many items were broken and some lost and I only received $120 after all the damage and loss. Trucks on Call has no idea of what providing anyone with the highest level of service because they are scam artists including the owner, the supervisor and the representatives who lie when they give a quote. Avoid this company like the plague or you will regret it!! Wish I had gone with a more professional and well know company that knows how to serve and treat customers because Obo Trucks on Call Inc have NO CLUE!!

I’m sincerely disappointed with the outcome of this company’s service. It was absolutely horrible. The team’s choice of words (dispatch over the phone - I would tell you who I spoke to besides the main guy, but he declined to tell me his last name when I asked) and demeanor left much to be desired. I’ve never felt so angry with a company in my life. As you know, moves are very personal and schedule dependent and when the dispatch team member on call over the weekend said things like “well, why don’t you just move yourself” after I was upset that we scheduled for the next day upon their on location team’s recommendation after showing up on our original day with a truck that would only fit one bed let alone a full one bedroom apartment and then the company didn’t show up. I sincerely hope they work through your customer service opportunities. No empathy at all came from them. By far, the worst moving company I’ve ever felt with.

I could leave a negative I would for other customers to view how low they should really be as their business practices are.

Easy shipment and estimate of furniture, already prepackaged and shipped from overseas to the east coast their job was to bring it to the west coast. Based on the reviews of others on overcharging I expressed my concern to the sales person. The person mentioned the A+ rating by the BBB falsely advertised on their web page it is only a B. Blamed the comments on the stresses of moving.

Yes, I have been overcharged 43% and forced to authorized the shipment based on the information they had on the circumstances. They took advantage of us, with lies and false promises and information. When I tried to speak to the owner he was condescending and making fun of what I was trying to explain. Terrible people to do business with.

Please pay $500 dollars more but go with someone else you would save yourselves the aggravation.
