Transport America represented themselves to me as a professional moving company. The sales contact, Michael, seemed professional and touted his companies rave reviews. After doing some checking I did see where they had good reviews and positive comments. I signed the contract and booked a date for our move. With that confirmed, I let the new owner of our house know the date and he scheduled his mover. 4 days before the move date, a “Quality control” person called to tell me that our moving date had slid to the next day. I protested that the new owner of our house had contracted his move and he might loose his deposit. I was told to “check your contract”, and indeed they could re-schedule at their convenience.

Day of the move. One guy in a Ryder rental truck shows up after lunch, He had no help. Just him. I was so mad I fired him on the spot. The guy said he had 2 helpers but they did not want to do the job as the drive time was too much. I called the Transfer America sales person who “sold” me the service and raised HELL with his answering machine as that was all I got. The poor mover said he could do the job and they found him some contract help in the next town, I relented begrudgingly as the new owner was moving in next day. He did net know where the “helper” was located and was confused by the Google Map. I told him to start the move and I would go meet the help and bring them back to the job site. I waited 30 minutes at the appointed place and the “help” never showed.

So, the mover, Gerardo, starts moving. He was an incredible worker and didn't slow down. I moved what I could in my pick up and helped move some things out so he could load them......but he was phenomenal. Within 3 hours he had loaded everything by himself. He showed up at the new house next day, by himself, and unloaded everything and placed it where my wife directed. He, not his company, single handedly saved our move. What a good kid, he deserved more support from his “company”.

This “moving company” doesn't have their own trucks and they use contract labor. They do have T shirts that say they are a moving company. I have a T shirt with “The Beatles” on it. That doesn't make me one of the Beatles. For what I paid them I could have got “4 men and 2 trucks”.

My personal experience with this company was extremely bad. “Your mileage may vary”, but I wouldn't hire them again to move a bag of peanuts across a room.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3600

I used Transport America for an out of state long distance move. It felt like I had a second job. When I originally signed my contract, I was told that I'd have advanced notice on shipping and arrival dates by 3-4 days so that I could make accomodations with my new apartment complex. On both the pick up and drop off I barely got 24 h notice and I had to call several times to see what was up. If this wasn't annoying enough they literally lost half of my bed frame, along with some shelves and storage, and did not provide assistance putting in a claim. When asking about my lost items, they were slow to respond and didn't help much. The physical movers were nice but the office workers were a pain to deal with.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $2600

Our sales rep, Justin, made everything sound great through the process & was very communicative throughout. We found later his statements and promises were not accurate. Note the company requires Venmo or similar payment which means you have no recourse for refunds other than trusting the company.

The movers arrived within the window but a day after scheduled in a rented Penske truck. They worked hard, asked questions, and listened. They filled the truck well but did not consider weight. They also left an item we clearly said needed to be on the load. The load was overweight, though, so we got to pay an extra $2,400 for more truck space, but at least they came for the other items which didn't fit. Justin did work with us to make the best of it, but it's frustrating having to pay extra unexpectedly for weight we don't have any control over.

The auto transport guy was terrible. He wanted to charge extra to winch the car onto his truck after I'd already paid extra for the winch truck ahead of time. He refused to take the box of parts in the trunk and argued about the spare tire. These were parts pulled from the car, so they did not add weight.

The movers disassembled furniture but did not reassemble all of it or offer any instruction. They did reassemble some, but they misplaced some parts and just left without doing anything about it.

Several items were damaged. The movers said they took pictures and sent them to the office. Justin said he was taking care of the claim. When we called later he said a claims rep would call soon. No call came. We haven't been able to get in touch with Justin for a while. We called the main office and they said we had to file the claim ourselves. The claims company requires an inventory list which TA never gave us. They also said they only pay $.60/$1 so we'll want to contact our homeowners insurance. It's in the contract, but it certainly isn't something the reps share upfront. Calling it "full value protection" is very misleading.

All in all, I do a VASTLY better job moving myself with a few buddies to help out. If I ever have to move again I will do it myself.

Our move with Transport America Moving Services went as smooth as a move can go! My sales rep Mark was very helpful setting everything up. The movers we're very professional and took really good care of my belongings and even packed all my TV's. The driver kept in great communication with me prior to arriving at my delivery. My goods showed up with no damages at all. I already referred them to a family member and I would also recommend them to anyone else looking for a great moving company!
