Long-distance move from New Mexico to Virginia

Move.

This was the worst move I have ever experienced. The pick up was promised at 8:00 in the morning and they never showed up until 11:00 at night. Any later and I would have had to pay another month of rent! When my belongings arrived, it looked as if everything had been in a tumbler and then thrown from the third story. I could not keep up with the photos and therefore my claim was denied. If you use these people, be sure to photograph or video everything! The estimate was half what the final cost was. Everytime I was contacted with a delivery date, the cost went up! I am glad this ordeal is finally over.

S & b Moving Service, Llc.

Movers were not professional -- one had never moved anything before. I was not notified when they were coming. After making 4-5 phone calls to my service rep, with no return calls, I got another person to tell me the movers would be there in 14 hours.
The movers were slow and sloppy and did not wrap furniture appropriately.
My biggest complaint is on the delivery. I was told by Relo that they would put items where you wanted. They were so rough with my doors, walls and furniture that I was glad to see them leave. In unpacking, I discovered that I was missing one box and a stand-up fan. I called one of the men that delivered and told him. Since there was only one other person that they had loaded before me, he called that person and was told they had the box and fan. The trucker told me he would pick them up and deliver them to me in 4-5 days. That time went by and I started calling him again, with him not answering and not returning my calls. After going through my phone bill to find the number of the trucker's boss, which was S & B Moving Service, LLC, Phoenix. He called his trucker and called me back and said he would pick up and deliver my items. OJ was his name, who I believe owned the company. He brought my fan and said they couldn't find the box. (This was 12 days after I called the first time and was told they found my items.)
Just wanted you to know you can't trust these movers.

Run Away!

No actual movers work for Relo. Subcontracting to independent movers (i.e. people too unreliable to work for a real moving company) means Relo does not exercise control over your moving experience. Clown sent to us was 3 days late, needed to borrow money to pay crew, stole beer from my fridge, drank on duty, failed to get all goods on van, and smoked weed in our driveway at new place. Bad people.

Never Use.

I am a very dissatisfied customer of Allstate Van Lines, Relo Van Lines, Relocation operation. I blame this company even though they claim no responsibility for any of the actions incurred during my move. I still hold Allstate Van Lines Relocation, Relo Van Lines, accountable for they are the ones that contract out the ones that come out to move you. At no time does their website or do they let you know that you will contracted out to another carrier who you have no control over. I was asked several times if an 18 wheeler would be able to pull up in front of the house. I reassured them every time that there had been other moving lines on the street. When so called movers showed up at 4:00 pm on a Sunday in Budget rent a truck I was in shock. I had no time to have any other arrangements made. There were 3 young men that were very tired but proceeded anyway. They didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. One was so tired that the head to him to go lay down in the truck. All they had were a few boxes with them, no packing materiel therefore things were just put in the boxes not protected. I have included pictures to show exactly how they looked. They went and got some more boxes and a roll of brown paper which they ripped pieces off to wrap glassware, plates collectible figurines. I've been through enough moves that I know this is not how to pack things. They also had US postal boxes that they used for packing. I am going to ask the postal office if this is a common practice for moving companies to do. They will have your companies name as a reference being you hired the movers. The pictures are there to document all of this. Since when do you wrap good wooden furniture in plastic wrap and not expect any damage? Never have I ever seen this done. If I had been moving down the block maybe this is acceptable but not cross country. I should be reimbursed for packing materials that weren't used. There were no dish packs and definitely not thirty. There were no mattress boxes as you see per photo. I was charged for 4. There were no wardrobe boxes as you see clothes were just placed in a box I was charged for 2. I took pictures of every single box that I had and did not have half of the boxes that I was charged for. In all the moves that I have been through never have I had damage beyond belief. This company is despicable and I would never ever go through them again. I would definitely never recommend then to anyone else. They are horrible.

Horrible experience.

The estimate given was not met. Actual guy filling out the paper work and I had a discussion on possible refund if my load was under weight.  At no time was I informed he believed it was more. I was not informed of the additional cost until hours before delivery.  I was not given a copy of "new visual binding estimate". The moving company contracted by this broker has an F rating with BBB.  Apparently Relo or All State (cant figure out why they have two names) does not care who they contract for your move.  Items lost. It was a very, very costly mistake to use this company. .

Worst Company Ever!

What an awful experience! I'm not one to complain but this company is the worst. Here is a list:They were a week late picking up my stuff, and about 4 days late dropping it off. They only had two movers to move all my stuff up three stories (it took 12 hours). The movers expected me to help them unload the  truck, and provide them with food. They spilled antifreeze on half of my boxes. They overcharged me for the stairs and said they couldn't refund me.After I unpacked I realized I was missing about $400 worth of my things.I filed a claim for my missing items, and after 3 months they told me there was nothing they could do because I signed the papers already. The customer service is the worst  I have ever dealt with!

Stolen/Missing Items.

My big mistake was to contract with American Van Lines because they sold their business to MBM Movers from N Carolina and Relo.  We had numerous problems with scheduling and added costs and scratched flooring on the day of delivery..but my primary complaint is the refusal of Relo to honor a complaint about stolen/missing items.  After waiting many weeks for my items, I signed some forms on a hot summer night (after having spent over $500 on unexpected charges)--as it turns out, I should not have signed anything until I had gone through all 70 or so boxes and examined all of the furniture.  Of course, no one explained that option to me.  I filed a complaint with Relo for about $800-$900; it took me a lot of time to put together all of the documentation.  Weeks later, I received a form letter informing me that my signature on the day of delivery nullified any claims.  Consumers should steer clear of any mover like American Van Lines that will sell your move to others.  If I could do it over again, I would pay more up front and work only with a major moving company, especially on a cross-country move.  Be sure that the move will be handled by the same company and have one contact person/agent through the whole process; don't sign anything upon delivery if it waives your right to file a claim.  I don't like to file complaints.  The guys from MBM moving--who did the actual move--worked hard, and they have a tough job.  I didn't like being told on the day of delivery, though, that there would be an extra cost to transport items from sidewalk to the first-floor apartment because the building is set back from the street.  They already had photos and site plan of the property.  .

Damaged And Lost And Torn Items.

My contract was made with AMERICAN VAN LINES who screwed me by subcontracting with RELO VAN LINES.   This was the worst dmove ever and now that it has been OVER 6 months and I have not been reimbursed for lost and damaged items, I am taking both companies to small claims court.  They lost photo albums and framed photos, a gas grill cabinet, broke flower pots that THEY packed and lost the shelves to a 6 foot oak shelf unit which is now useless.  The ALSO DRAGGED MY NEW SOFA AND OVERSIZED CHAIR ON THE GROUND and tore  holes in the I was told that I would be getting  A BIG check for 118.00  WOW!! Of course I never got it. DO NOT USE EITHER COMPANY.  THEY LIE AND WERE HORRIBLE AND EVEN MADE MwE PAY 300.00 IN CASH TO EVEN START THE DELIVERY PROCESS.  Now they will pay!

Long-distance move from Tennessee to North Carolina

Destroyed our stuff, didn't care.

We searched the internet to find a moving company that could pack our belongings,  store them for up to 3 months, and then deliver them to and into our new house. Many companies quoted us similar prices on the packing and moving, but Relo Van Lines was less expensive for storage so we went with them. Our problems began soon after. We had sold our house and had a closing date set and needed to be completely out of our house by the time of the closing. We told this to Relo and they assured us that they would be there 2 days prior to that. They missed that deadline. They actually arrived 4 hours after our closing. The buyers and the real estate people were very gracious and understanding that we were having to be dependent on the movers. Once the moving crew arrived I sat down with the person in charge and he said that they were going to pack all night long and be gone by 5 or 6 am. He wanted me to go ahead and sign the packing manifest so that I didn't I have to sit up all night with him. He told me that our stuff would be stored in the town that we were moving to. We paid them for professional packing, moving, and 3 months of climate controlled storage. Long story short, the movers who picked up our stuff from Athens took it to a storage facility in Georgia, not in our new town in NC. A storage facility that was not climate controlled. Our stuff sat in there for 3 months. After we paid them the last of their money (which had to be done before they would even open the doors) they (different movers from the same company) informed us of this fact and said that all of our stuff was covered in mold. Most of the boxes are crushed. Our dryer has a huge dent in the top. Our mattresses and couches weren't wrapped and are ruined. All of my children's stuffed animals are ruined. Most of our clothes had to be thrown away. Pillows, lamp shades, books, art - all ruined.
It was so bad that a local news crew came and did a story about it. You can watch that here:

Relo's response? We'll give you .60 cents per pound for what is damaged. That covers less than 20% of what was damaged. They just don't care.

Flghting for claims.

I moved across the country back in July 2013. I had a damage claim that was *surprisingly* approved in March 2014 (that's another terrible issue ENTIRELY!). HOWEVER, I have still not received my claim settlement check from the "agent" and it has been well over 7 months. I have called the claims department every 2 weeks for ther last 5 months. I refuse to give in, but this is the absolute WORST moving experience I have ever had.
