Long-distance move from Salisbury, MA to Punta Gorda, FL

Beware of fraud.

This company is a brokerage that will promise you the moon. then they hire a subcontractor out of New Jersey who will force you to resend the original contract and acquiesce to a bill of lading and contract for much more money. They are supposed to charge by the pound but will tell you that you have more cubic feet than estimated. You are promised a delivery window of 5 to 10 days and then given a delivery window of 7 to 21 days. Are movers estimate they will arrive between 7 and 9 p.m. tonight, a Friday night. We shudder to think of the condition our property will be in when it arrives. Do not use this broker they are dishonest, they do not return phone calls, and they will do anything to get a deposit from you but they will not honor their contract.

Long-distance move from Springfield, MO to Billings, MT

Incompetent and Unprofessional.

Let me be totally transparent here as I begin this review. Over the past few weeks I had high hopes for this company when I initially started to talk to Matt. Matt understood that I was moving my parents, who are almost 90 and 83 years of age. He also knew that we had two moves, one now and one in mid August that would be bigger. They were moving to a Assisted Living facility and could not take but 22 boxes and a bedroom suit, table and a few chairs because of the size of their room. But I would need them to transport the other furniture in the house and the rest of what we were keeping in August.
Like other reviews I was told that they would arrive on either a Monday or a Tuesday, for us that meant on June 4th or 5th of this month. The reason they had to pick it up on those dates, was to assure me that it would arrive before my parents who I was escorting to their destination, by plane, on the 14th. You see, it takes between 3 to 10 days to get to their destination I was told.
I was told the charge was based on weight. They would go to a station and weigh the truck before and then after the pickup would weigh it again.
At this point Matt gave me Judy to speak with who would be one that would communicate with me during and after the pickup.
To say that Judy lacks communication skills is an understatement. To say that Judy can get down right rude, is spot on.
I was never told a time or an exact date of arrival or the name of a company. But to be fair, after speaking to her, it seems that Matt, who lead me to believe that they had someone, really didn't have anyone and Judy was the one who was supposed to get that company which would be a 3rd party.
But to be fair to Matt, Judy lead me to believe that Monday and Tuesday was a good date. I was told they would contact me within 4 hours of pickup, which was fine with me.
So when I called Judy and told her that no one had showed or called, she said she would look into it. But instead of her getting back with me, I had to call her 3 more times, and instead of speaking with Judy, Gabrielle was the one who that would actually be speaking to me. Judy was to busy. But at one point I finally spoke to Judy. Instead of giving me solutions, she immediately said "well, would be better to just give you a refund."
I said no, I'm locked in at this point and my elderly parents need a bed to sleep on when they arrive.
Judy then said she would look into it. Mind you, this is 5 days after the first arrival date was promised. After calling on Friday when she didn't call again, I finally get a response from Judy who stated that she had someone who would be picking up my parents belongings on Sunday, June 10th.
I called later in the day, because they said they would not take a personal check for the last payment nor a credit card and I would need a electronic type of check from the bank. When I went to the bank they required a name on the payee line. I called Judy again and I was told they didn't have a name yet, but she would again "look into it and get me a name." Once again Judy never called back. See a pattern?
So Saturday night, realizing that I didn't get a name I ran to the bank to get cash out of the ATM. But, as usual, Open Road Moving and Storage was a no show. I called Judy, but there was no answer. Then I called Matt who said he would "get on it!"
Then Judy called and again offered me a refund! What they heck? I told her that "refund" can't be her go to statement and again, we are locked in and my parents and I leave on Thursday. Both Matt and Judy said they would get back with me, but never did. I then called back and got Judy who said, and by the way I do not believe this statement.
"we did have a truck for you, but when the truck arrived at one of it's stops, the customer had three times more stuff than they stated and it filled the whole truck and that's why your truck never showed up."
The incompetence now extends to the truck driver for never notifying the other customers. Lastly I was called today and said they can't help me and they would issue a refund. Just sad!

Long-distance move from Baton Rouge, LA to Denver, CO

Not a Moving Company.

This company is a sham and brokerage company, NOT A MOVING COMPANY. All of the 5 star reviews are fake (notice how not one picture is posted and all the reviews are within the last month). They are a recent startup from a failed company called coast to coast, they change their name regularly to hide their poor customer service and actual reviews. Upfront they seem wonderful and promise you the world, but ask the right questions and their performance falls to pieces. For example, their continuous "check ups" are a way for them to increase the price and collect their deposit before brokering it out to another company, which once done can only be paid by cash or cashiers check.. why? Because it leaves you no recourse for the poor quality or service of your move. Additionally, they can't guarantee you a delivery date because they book your moving truck on other moves as well, your items may not show up for months. Do yourself a favor, call a reputable company that owns their own van lines and will personally be moving your items, not a middle man.

SCAMMERS, Stay Away.

STAY AWAY!! Don’t ever hire these guys for moving. I will write it down in short and in points to make you guys aware of these scammer.

1. They are not mover, they are brokers.
2. They don’t come home to do exact inventory check, instead they do it on phone.
3. Payment option agreed will be credit card.
4. Once contract is signed they will hire a local low rated movers. The one they hire for me was USA movers.
5. Movers don’t show up on the schedule pick up date, instead they make a reason that I missed a call.
6. Some other movers Moving Van Lines Inc came for pickup. On checking with them they said that US movers and Moving Van Lines Inc are same company and they have 2 more moving companies.
7. Here they don’t accept credit card. Only personal check or cash is accepted.
8. They don’t do weight of the items in front of you, instead they say it’s a standard US procedure to weigh the truck, I don’t have to be in person there to check weight. I will get a call from movers after the truck is weighed.
9. Movers didn’t call back for 7 days. I was following up with them and they were making reason that they are not in office and they will call back, but they don’t.
10. One day before delivery they called me saying my items wieghed 2000 lbs more. Here you don’t have other options than paying for additional weight because you were not present there.
11. Drivers won’t call till delivery.
12. Now they want rest of the payment in cash during delivery and no other option.

So guys, please stay away from these guys. These guys are scammer. You end up paying more through your hard earned money.

Not a moving company, and certainly not honorable!

The only thing you can be sure of is that you will never see your deposit again. Please note that this is NOT A MOVING COMPANY. They will write you an estimate and then subcontract your move to another company who may or may not honor that estimate. In my case, after Open Road gave me an estimate to move specific listed pieces of furniture, the movers showed up and demanded (in cash) 50% more than the estimate. When I declined to pay the extra money, Open Road refused to refund my deposit. I reported this to the credit card company, and the owner of Open Road LIED in his statement to them, accusing me of adding extra items on move day. Moral of the story: They are not movers. The estimate they give you means nothing, and they cannot be expected to behave with any decency if something goes wrong. Use this company at your own peril.

Long-distance move from South Carolina to Utah

Terrible Company.

I used them for my move from SC to UT and it was a terrible experience. They gave me one quote then the next time I talk to someone it goes even thousands more then when the actual movers that work for a different company come they jack up the price thousands more. I was told that it goes by weight but the mover talked about cubic square feet. I don't really know what I was charged based on because when the so called customer service manager said she would look into it then never called back. I got tired of calling and getting the run around so I tried to dispute the charge on my credit card because I did not receive the less stress that I was told and paid for. I received more stress and scammed out of my money. They should not be in business and will never use a broker again. The moving company they use have another company deliver the stuff. It was not worth the money I paid and they damaged my stuff. Open Road didn't even care at all once they had my money and I had my stuff they didn't want to talk to me anymore. I wish I didn't even have to pick a star because I would do negative stars if I could. They don't even deserve one star.

Bad experience.

Very bad experience with this company. Called and spoke to Dylan. He gave me a quote of $1444.00 to have us moved. I gave him the complete inventory nothing more and nothing less was packed onto the moving truck. 1. The trucking company is a different company that is a subcontractor. 2. They were supposed to show up between 11am and 1pm but didn't show until 7:30pm (in the dark) and didn't leave until 11:00pm. 3. The bill ended up being $1,000 more than DYLAN quoted me because the movers go by sqft not weight. 4. Called DYLAN to speak with him about the situation and he said he would call me back in 3 minutes. He didn't.. I sent him an email and he NEVER replied.
What a crap company! Bad business. Beware!

This is a Ripoff Company Takes Your Money Provides no Service.

THEY DO NOT MOVE ANYTHING. THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY FOR A "DOWNPAYMENT" WHICH IS JUST THIER FEE. THEY SEND YOUR INFORMATION TO ANOTHER COMPANY THAT THAN CHARGES YOU 3 TIMES THE QUOTED PRICE. BEWARE!!
They started out a month ago after a detailed walk through of our home on the phone quoted $6900 to move us from Texas to Ohio including 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, Garage, Goldwing motor cycle and trailer. They called again 2 weeks ago and the price went up so we reduced what we were moving. Thier policy so they say is someone will come out to get actual pricing. We gave a deposit of $1940.71, then because you lose 50% of your deposit if you cancel 48 hours before the move they called 2 days before the move and said we needed 2 trucks now and it will cost $4000.00 more for the move which requires additional $2041.00 dollars down. We added nothing to the move from the second conversation. Movers show up only 1 truck, they can't take the Motorcycle or trailer and they are going to charge another $5000.00. We now have no movers and Open Road has $4000.00 of our money for nothing more than calling us 3 times and calling a moving truck company that could not do the job. Open Road moving also said it would take 3-5 days, the company that showed up only picks up the stuff, they take it to a storage facility than transfers it to a storage unit, then transfers it to a truck, 4 transfers later and 2 weeks later they might have it to Ohio by the end of February, picking up on February 17th.

Would recommend!

I have moved several times over the past few years for my job. Every move I have done in the past was an absolute nightmare! I was extremely hesitant about using a moving company but as I am a single female, there was no way I could do it on my own. When I first spoke with Brian, I was very impressed with his knowledge about this very shady industry. I was even more impressed with how honest he was about all that could go wrong and what his company would do to prevent those things from happening to me. Once I decided to go forward and put down my deposit, they passed me to their customer service team and all of the ladies in that department were so helpful throughout the process. On the day of my move I added last minute items and I was told the price would be increasing because of the additional space it would take on the truck. I was not happy about this at all so I called customer service and spoke with their manager Judy. She spoke with the driver and was able to negotiate with them so that I could bring my extra items and not have to pay as much as they were quoting me. She really went to bat for me and got it resolved quickly and that is what led me to writing this review. My experience was not perfect -- but one thing I can say is that Open Road really worked on my behalf to make sure I was comfortable and taken care of. Coming from someone that has moved several times with all sorts of companies, I would definitely recommend using their service. I know who I am going to call for my next move!

Urge you to look elsewhere..

If I could give them less than 1 star I would. We provided clear instructions (physically labeled) ever piece that was to be moved. Items were forgotten and never picked up and I had to find my own LTL service to deliver them. Half of the items that were picked up were damaged or missing parts (ie: half a vacuum cleaner, a TV with no power cord, and antique desk that looked like it was dropped down a flight of steps, a curio cabinet with all the shelves missing). I would URGE anyone considering them to look elsewhere.

Long-distance move from Florida to North Carolina

Open Road - Moving Brokers. Total RIP OFF.

Open Road Moving Storage quoted me for a 2 bedroom move from FL to NC at 296 cubic feet. Today the movers showed up and estimated that we have about 500 cubic feet (40% more than quoted) despite our inventory list being accurate.
I called Open Road and they told me they just put our list in a system and then they system spits out the quote, but they cannot account for what I really have. I understand that a quote should have a +- percentage of margin of error, but not 40%.
I had no choice but to cancel my move, which is going to cost me the deposit I already paid.

Word of advice: Do not work with Open Road moving.

Long-distance move from Temecula, CA to Brighton, MA

Moving from California to Boston.

I spent time getting quotes from both in house and over the phone inventory based movers. Open road used an over the phone system as most brokers do at first. The process took about one hour with Joe Wilson and seemed reasonable. The quote was automatically created in minutes and they were quick to assign multiple discounts..red flag. The move was scheduled and two days before assigning a company in Los Angeles I received call from Brian Fox asking for a more complete inventory. A strange request as I have done this before and we agreed that the weight would be adjusted up or down based on final shipping. I agreed that if less I pay more and if more the price would be adjusted up, reasonable. So why another inventory list..…..because cubic feet was now an issue as it determines the vehicle..….ridiculous as it all get transfers into an 18 wheeler to go across counmtry. Reluctantly I agreed after all things were packed and we were driving across country under a fixed schedule. On the day of the move a truck pulls up, rented under Enterprise, with a guy in a green shirt walking through the house completing a new inventory and obviously a new price, almost double that we had agreed upon with open road. Angry I desperately tried to call open road dispatcher to get a clarification. In the meantime the driver of this moving company had pulled away and was headed back to Los Angeles. To their credit they tried to find another mover with short notice. They did and this new company insisted the quote was low and wanted another $4,000 as they had rejected the job originally. After three days of hell and cancelling reservations I called one of the LA movers that previously quoted and we were off exactly as quoted, albeit 4 days late and stops that had to be cancelled.
So to summarize the original quote from open raid of $10,000 was increased to $13,000 with my agreement from an audited second list to $19,100 from a guy with a rented truck. The mover from Los Angeles, BLVD moving quoted around $11,000, the same $13,000 quote from open road and $19,000 from their first mover and $16,000 rom their second mover. Ironically the load was same cubic feet and weight initially agreed upon with open road not the weights and cubic feet insisted on from their two contracted Movers.
So I will never use a broker again, especially this one, the rest anyone reading can decide.

Long-distance move from Winfield, AL to Columbus, OH

Interstate move from Alabama to Ohio.

I flew down from Ohio to Alabama on the Friday morning that the trucking company was to pick up my daughter's household goods, to help my daughter tie up any loose ends and help her drive back to Ohio. The movers were supposed to pick up her (2 bedroom, in which the 1 room was used for light storage) townhouse belongings that Friday or Saturday. She had called 3 weeks ahead of time to schedule the pick up and received a Friday / Saturday window. She allowed herself 1 week before she started her new job. The Friday / Saturday window came and went. My daughter called Saturday evening to get the status of the pick up with no return calls from Dylan. She finally received a call from customer service at around 6PM saying the truck broke down and that they did not have another trucking outfit to take their place. They would work on it. When asked about compensation we were finally told a patent answer that "pick up's are estimated times/days", no compensation due. Then WHAT IS THE USE OF GIVING A WINDOW AND CALLING 3 WEEKS AHEAD OF TIME TO SET UP A PICK UP, IF THEY CAN'T EVEN MEET THAT? We finally got a call on Monday saying that a trucking company would be there to pick up her goods that afternoon. Company did not show up until around 7:35PM. Of course the price increased. We asked when we could expect her stuff to be delivered in Ohio and they told us we would have household goods in Ohio in about 2 - 3 days. By the time they finished packing/loading the truck it was too late for us to drive back to Ohio. We left early Tuesday morning. My daughter's goods did not arrive in 2 - 3 days. The trucking company came at 8:00PM Sunday night. My daughter had to start her new job on Monday morning. DO NOT USE THIS OUTFIT FOR YOUR MOVING NEEDS. Use a company that will stick by their pricing and pickup window. This will save you a lot of headaches.

Assclowns.

These [EDIT] deserve to be put in jail for the lies and stealing they do to their customers. Not only did they reach out to me over and over when I got a quote for a move I was doing. They assured me this was the best deal and my property would get to its destination in a few days (Charlotte to Boston). Well most of my property was damaged or lost and then these assclown all of the sudden don’t answer the phone or emails or provide no informations saying I “wasn’t in their system”. I still may take a trip to Florida to see what this place looks like in person lol. You live and you learn but please don’t make the same mistake I did, stay far away from these snakes!

AWFUL and they just care about getting your money!

If I could give them a -10 review I would. They were the most amazing company I talked to on the phone until they got my money. As soon as they got my money a 360 happened. I had to always follow up with them even when they said they would call. Incredibly long story short, "Dylan" the sales rep that sold me the dream of having my stuff by day 5 after they picked up my belongings was a complete lie. Come to find out they are to NEVER guarantee a date which he did. That was the ONLY reason I chose them! I ended up getting my items on day 15. During this time noone could even give me an estimated date when my stuff would be delivered. No-one even knew where my stuff was for days, which is incredibly unsettling. Then I get my stuff just to be missing 3 boxes and my brand new furniture damaged beyond repair. "Dylan" assured me if I wasn't satisfied with the move I wouldn't have to pay the final payment. That was a complete LIE as well you must pay or they won't even unload from the trailer. Then my stuff all smelled like pig [EDIT] like it sat in a stinky ass trailer for 2 weeks. I had multiple broken items, missing items, boxes that were opened then re taped for some odd reason. I feel like my items were actually gone through and items were stolen. I emailed Open Road to give them the opportunity to fix it before I started putthing these reviews out there and SURPRISE they are ignoring my email. At this time I have filed a complaint with the BBB. We will see how this works out but I am requesting for a full refund due to their lack of care and lacking efforts to even respond and resolve this issue. DO NOT USE THEM, THEY WILL SELL YOU A DREAM THEM DISAPPEAR ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY!!

Worst Nightmare of a Move! DO NOT USE OPEN ROAD!

If we only knew then, back in November of 2018, what know now about Open Road Moving & Storage, we would NEVER have hired Open Road Moving & Storage. We don't know how you can sleep at night knowing what you scam your customers into believing. We are senior citizens on a fixed income and sorely disappointed in your horrible work ethics and customer service.
We received a callback only minutes after inquiring online about getting estimates from moving companies to move us from NC to PA. Brian Hannan called us with what he promised to be the BEST estimate we could get from anyone else. He convinced us to go through and inventory each room with him and tell him what items we were planning to move. His estimate was $3808.49 with all the "Discounts" we were entitled to. He PROMISED US that we could use our American Express credit card for the entire move, but NEVER ONCE MENTIONED that there would be a surcharge for doing so. We gave him a deposit of $1427.87 charged to our American Express card, which we now understand is really their "FEE" to subcontract to a third party moving company. That third party company turned out to be Moseley Van Lines located in Fort Lee, NJ, which we did not now until they arrived 4 1/2 hours late to start our move.! At least 8 driving hours away from us in NC. A follow up phone call to us from Open Road asked for another inventory of our items to be moved, which upped the price because of the potential weight of our items. We tried to find a way to back out of our contract with Open Road, but if we did, we would have had to forfeit 50% of our deposit. We opted to pack as much as we could ourselves and bought our own moving boxes. Negotiating a moving date was a terrible experience as well. We finally got Open Road to commit to a firm moving date since we had to be our of our rental property on a certain date. On moving day, Mosley Van Lines sent a rather beatup truck and 4 men. They arrived 4 1/2 hours late explaining that they had to drive all the way to Morehead City, NC in heavy traffic. They were instructed not to call us personally, so we had to rely on a very unprofessional person to keep us updated on when they would finally arrive. They began packing our furniture at 2:30 in the afternoon on January 2, 2019. We were living in a 2000 sq. ft. condo. They worked all afternoon and all through the night and into the next morning. It took them 16 1/2 hours to pack us up!! No one got any sleep..the movers, us, our neighbors. The final price of this $3808.48 move turned out to be $13,249. We're retired and living on a fixed income and are still reeling from this overcharged scam that Open Road and Mosley Van Lines charged us.
We have tried many times to contact them, have sent copies of our moving invoices and lists of all that they packed and have heard NOTHING from either Open Road or Mosley Van Lines. The final blow after getting this bill which we had to pay onsite before the movers would leave with our furniture is that they also charged us $600 for the "privilege" of using our American Express Credit card, which Brian Hannan assured us would be fine to use, except left out the part where there would be a surcharge for doing so and failed to tell me the truth when I asked about using it. I tried to call them again yesterday and got a voice mail to leave a message. Mosley's number is not working right now. We feel cheated and robbed by Open Road and Mosley Van Lines. We are in the process of making a claim to the Better Business Bureau for both companies.

Horrifying terrorists moving your belongings.

This is not a "moving company"..it is a group of demolition terrorists "specialists" that will give you a quote that sounds good over the phone, but they will hold onto your stuff for weeks past the delivery date, hold your stuff hostage unless you pay them $1600 more..cash or money order of course.. and then they will finally deliver it all smashed and broken. I am an actual customer and this was actually my experience. I will not stop until I have sued every last penny out of every part of this company. The physical, emotional and psychological torture we endured at their hands is beyond unacceptable. I truly believed we would not see our belongings ever again..and now they are all smashed and boxes dented and my equipment is all broken and nonfunctional. We lost so much revenue not being able to move in until almost a month later, having to pay for places to stay while also sleeping on the hardwood floors on nothing more than our sweaters and jackets. We were supposed to start working and now all of our equipment needs to be replaced too. These terrorists are going to pay.

Beware.

This is the most dishonest company I have ever done business with. They will promise call backs to give ETA on pickup and delivery but you will never get a call back. you will be quoted one price, but that price will increase by 3x after all your belongings have been loaded onto the movers truck. you will be told that you are paying a price per lb, but they will change to cu ft after everything is loaded.

it should not cost $7200 to move a 500 sq ft apartment.
