Bad overall experience. Day late on both pick up and delivery, after confirming both. No call before hand to go over what I had. Move cost almost double the quote. Damaged items noted at drop off ,still waiting on customer service for that. My biggest issue is the many missing boxes! What happened to them? How does this happen? Know before hiring this company that your stuff will go through many hands , this was never told at time of hire. The movers themselves were very nice and hard working. I just wish the salesman was upfront with me at time of deposit. They are not with you through the whole thing, you go through many different companies before receiving some of your stuff. I have so much missing!

We used Gentle to move our son from Virginia to Boston. All went well, albeit with some hiccups due to hurricane and occasional lackluster comms. Key is for folks to carefully read the contract so they know exactly what service they will receive. We were well treated, and we have high regard for the office staff of Camila and Ron, as well as the actual moving team. The guys who come to your home are tireless, honest and hard working. Better comms from sales staff would go a long way to settle nerves. And a better understanding of the contract...they have a window of days for the delivery. They try to deliver by a certain date, but there are no guarantees as they have many jobs to schedule/route. Also, know that the contract says that a flight is 7 steps, whereas you might normally think a flight is 14 steps. I read a lot of details in the contact after pickup that I did not see (overlooked?) in the sales agreement. Also, note that refund for cancellation is only available 48 hours after contract is signed....someone posted inaccurate info about this. Again, we were freaked after we signed up due to the negative reviews. But, in hindsight, we think the negative reviews are unfair. The team at Gentle did a good job to accommodate us. I just wish they were better in responding to inquiries and requests for status updates. I think you can trust them. Just read the contract....everything is spelled out. Do not rely on verbal explanations of their services.

I would give them ZERO stars if I could.

Moving broker (Gold Standard Moving and Storage LLC (U.S. DOT# 3422711)) and carrier (JG Transportation, LLC d/b/a J. Gentle Van Lines (U.S. DOT# 1977019)) conspired to defraud us of $1,240 while failing to provide any of the services we contracted for. Gold Standard is actually not a moving company; it is a dishonest broker. They collect consumers’ deposits (e.g., $1,240) then pawn consumers off to unscrupulous carriers (e.g., JG).

Material Change in Price: When JG arrived (e.g., JG), they immediately jack up the binding estimate by 55% (from 963 cf to 1,500 cf); 30 minutes later, they raised it again to 1,700 cf (an increase of 77%). Please note, JG confirmed that we had no more items than we reported for the original estimate. JG also wanted to charge additional fees for “bulky items,” “heavy items,” and a long-distance carry despite describing everything to Gold Standard before the original estimate and before making the $1,240 deposit.

Hostage: JG refused to tell us the additional cost. They refused to provide us with any monetary amount. JG repeatedly stated they would take our property first and then provide us with the final number. In such cases, if we didn’t pay the increased amount, regardless of the amount, JG would hold our property (i.e., hostage), whereby they could sell it if we do not pay.

CROOKED CARRIERS (JG TRANSPORTATION, LLC D/B/A JGENTLE VANLINES)

110% Rule: According to federal law, interstate moving companies (e.g., Gold Standard & JG) are required to release our belongings upon paying 100% of the charges in a binding estimate (i.e., the one we signed) or 110% of a non-binding estimate where additional weight or services have caused the final price to increase. We received seven (7) other estimates, and none of them exceeded 983 cf, nor did they include any “bulky items” or “heavy items” charges. Please note that the highest cf estimate was 983 cf (or 20 cf greater than Gold Standard’s), which is vastly different from the additional 736 cf that JG attempted to charge us (i.e., rob us). JG is a criminal organization operating as an interstate carrier.

Gold Standard and JG are thieves pretending to be movers. It seemed a bit suspicious that JG based in Elizabeth, NJ had a truck with Indiana license plates and a truck number I cannot find in any public database. These are the three crooks from JG that Gold Standard outsourced to.

Eventually, Diego of JG said they would wait in the truck while their boss called us with the new number. We have a video recording of this conversation, which we sent to Gold Standard. We asked Diego for the information to be in writing (“send us an email”), which he agreed to do (that is also in the recording).

The security footage from our building reflects that the Driver (waiting in the loading dock) read something on his phone and then immediately went to the truck. When Marcello and Diego got to the loading dock, Diego went directly to the truck as Marcello folded up the truck’s lift. They then drove off. JG never waited as they told us. Their decision to leave was planned. Our video recording shows Diego leaving our apartment at 12:16 pm on 9/7/21. The building’s security footage showed them departing the loading dock immediately upon exiting the building at 12:18 pm and leaving the grounds entirely at the same time.

We called Gold Standard; Michael (the same one) told us that JG probably went for a drink or to get gas and will be right back. Michael said he would check with JG and get back to us. Michael never called us back. We called Gold Standard again. This time Tiffany West told us that “[We] refused service,” which we denied. She then clarified and said, “The carrier told us that you refused service, so they left.” Tiffany West proceeded to tell us that we forfeited our deposit of $1,240, and Gold Standard has performed as contracted.

Let’s put this in context. Our home has been completely packed. Gold Standard said JG would arrive on Friday, 9/3/21. JG never showed. Gold Standard then modified the contract for JG to arrive on Saturday, 9/4/21. JG never showed. We called Gold Standard and were told we were rescheduled for Tuesday, 9/7/21. We were supposed to move out on 9/3/21, spend the holiday weekend with the parents, and immediately list our home for sale. None of that has happened. We only asked Gold Standard and JG to tell us the amount of the additional charges, which they both refused to provide, until after they took possession of our property.

Neither Gold Standard nor JG should be permitted to conduct business anymore. These are criminals masquerading as brokers and carriers. They have a very lucrative business of defrauding consumers.

Worst experience moving ever. At the pick up they told us we underestimated the amount of space we would need. A $1400 job went to $3400. I set up delivery almost 4 weeks in advance. two days before delivery they called to say they were going to deliver a day early. As the apartment was not ready yet I informed them that was not possible. Delivery needed to occur on the day we scheduled. Day of delivery I get a text saying they will not be there until the following day. Apparently they sent the driver to SC, NC, and VA before sending him to MD. On Sunday I get a text saying they will be there to unload between 3 - 5 pm. At 7 pm I get another call saying they are 3 hours out and cannot deliver today. When they finally showed up they demand payment before they will even begin unloading. The office is the most unresponsive and unprofessional I have ever dealt with. Part of the service was for them to put things back together. They showed up with no tools. I think this is actually the plan so they can get out of doing any extra work. There was a missing item. The movers scratched the floor and couldn't figure out how to put a piece of furniture together. This company takes ZERO accountability for their issues. Once they have your money you are at their mercy. No customer service no communication. DO NOT USE THEM NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF DEAL THEY QUOTE YOU. Phone calls, texts and emails are ignored.

They deserve no stars but this makes you give at least one to go on. To start with, they were a day late and it was raining so they tracked mud and dirt in and out of the house. The day before when they were scheduled to come was sunny and beautiful. After everything was loaded on the truck the estimate of $4000. suddenly became $6500! I gave Raymond a detailed item by item description and it was not even close to the estimate he gave me. We paid for the full move, so they packed it all and after they left we noticed the large bedroom walk in closet was untouched. We already had the car packed to the roof with personal items we didn't want them to take, so we had no room for this stuff. Between the clothes and other items stored in the closet we lost about $500 dollars of our things because we had no choice but to leave them behind. I told Raymond about the bulk items ahead of time like the ride on mower and a generator, but I was charged extra for them anyway. Like all moving companies, some things were lost and/or broken. Our estimate of loss from this was over $400. and they sent us a check for $33. It would have been cheaper for us to leave everything and buy all new furniture after the move. Stay far away from these crooks if you want a reliable move!

They do not deserve any stars (more minus stars) but you have to give one to place a review. We moved in July and they came in a small Uhaul so they had to move my things from one truck to another... Alot of my furniture was damaged (way more then a normal move could do). Also they had us quoted at $4500 and already gave them a 'non-refundable' deposit so I was stuck when they said the they underestimated this and now I owe them $6000. I only moved 1 room worth of furniture, 12 containers and 22 boxes. They were late in delivering at which time I called and was told it would be another week...what? After getting the runaround (because this was brokered out), I finally recerived a better answer. I had to orchestrate it and I thought I had everything so I signed. Within 24 hours, I realized I was missing items - one of which was my daughters LOL Chalet. I called, got no response back and put in a claim. I just received the claim which they found no reason to reimburse me. WOW! Safe Ship Moving and JGentle Van Lines were the worst companies to deal with and total crooks! Do not call these companies!

They were flexible with our move in date so I appreciate that. I am however officially unpacked 6 weeks from our move and have confirmed I'm missing a box and granite table top and shelf. I have the legs but not the granite. My husband reached out to them a few days ago after the movers came by and asked about the granite. They are incredibly unresponsive. I guess if anyone else out there moved 6 weeks ago and you have a homedepot box with hardcover books and some granite let me know. It's sentimental and I can't replace the table. I can buy the books again although one was a signed 1st edition gift from my parents when I was a teenager.

I moved from Massachusetts to Florida and was given a three to 10 business day window. My belongings were picked up on February 28th and it is now March 20th and I am still waiting for the remainder of my belongings. Some of them arrived but with dings and scratches and broken items that were bubble wrapped inside tubs. I would strongly advise you not to use this company because their customer service is horrible! They don't care what the condition of your belongings is when it finally arrives! I would never use them again! And it cost me over $11,000 to have my things broken and scratched and to wait impatiently for my belongings to arrive in Florida! I am not exaggerating! Trust me on that! Sign me a very unhappy customer!
