Long-distance move from Las Vegas, NV to San Diego, CA

Read The Fine Print.

When I was originally quoted for my move from Las Vegas to San Diego, the Bekins agent told me that the weight of my items was almost 6,500 pounds and the cost would be around $6k. The company that I am working for was paying for the move, but I always like to try to keep costs down when I can since it's not my money.
The movers arrived 4 hours late and had to pack things so quickly since I lived in a secured high-rise and they only had access to the elevator and receiving door till 4pm.
After they dropped my items off at the new place in San Diego, I asked what the actual weight of my move was since they were still saying I owed the $6k. They said my actual weight was 3,500 pounds! So I basically felt like they are just sticking it to the customer since everything is input into a calculation for "estimate" purposes. I asked how the weight could be so far off and they gave me the deer in the headlights look. Since they were just the movers, they really didn't know what corporate was quoting and or why. Seems to me that if the agent who came out to give me the estimate basically has no clue what weight of furniture was, so to quote a line out of the movie Casino..either you are that stupid or you are in on it!
I'm sure they are given some bonus compensation on the higher the moving price.
Worse is that when you call and call and call and call, leave message after message after message you get no response which just infuriates me since I am in the customer service industry,
Second piece is that when you get to unpacking things and you find broken items. Oh joy Oh joy
Bekins wants receipts of the items they broke. Well, since they broke mixing bowls and crystal wine glasses, chances are I didn't keep the receipts since the items were fine when I got them home from the store. To add insult to injury, they will only pay you .60 cents per pound on the items broken! What a F&%king joke! My crystal wine glasses were close to $50 a piece!
I will have the last laugh.
Posting all of this on social media and writing reviews about how awful the customer service is with Bekins.
And since the company I went to work for is hiring people from all over the USA to come work here, I have already told the HR why NOT to use Bekins for any of our new team members coming on board.

Nightmare And Rip-off.

AVOID BY ANY AND ALL MEANS. BIG RIP-OFF: improperly packaged items (some not even packaged); broken items galore plus 30 boxes STOLEN.
Never had problems over the years with them until Bekins picked ITS GLOBAL for worst disaster move EVER: left refrigerator behind; owner Doeneka got enraged when we called to remind him to pick it up; workers clogged toilet, left feces and urine all over floor of bathroom; etc.
NIGHTMARE COMPANY IN HANDS OF INCOMPETENT DOPES.

Long-distance move from Illinois to Texas

Long distance move from Chicago to Texas.

My long distance move from Chicago, IL, to Texas went quite smoothly due to Bekins Van Lines and Paxem, Inc., which provided the packers. The estimate given to me by Bekins was exactly the amount I was charged, so I had no surprise from them. The move went exactly as planned and all dates and times were as quoted to me and agreed upon. Everyone in the process did his/her best to satisfy me--the customer. Everything arrived safely and all the personnel was respectful and professional.

Long-distance move from New Mexico to Florida

Don't Expect a Full Delivery.

I went with Bekins based on a review of local movers. Bekins does do the long haul, however, they use local companies as well.

First, I paid for this move myself. The move itself came in at $1300 more than the estimate which surprised me, since I got rid of my Living Room, Dinette and one bedroom set. My endpoint did change, however, by about 700 miles.

The folks who packed my house and who delivered the final boxes where very professional. There where many knicks and dents that I am dealing with, however, this was expected on my part. Little was actually "broken" beyond repair, and having moved myself before, this was acceptable.

My biggest complaint, is that Bekins lost my side rails to my King bed set. This is tow 8ft by 8in pieces.. not something easily lost.

After about a month of waiting, I chose to contact the bedroom manufacturer and luckily was able to get the side rails replaced for a nominal cost. I put a claim into Bekins to have this replacement cost reimbursed. Bekins offered to pay me $12 for my time and loss. I find this totally unacceptable and inappropriate.

Again, I really dislike rating a company on just one aspect.. the rest of the move was pleasant. But to lose my side rails, basically making a bedroom set unusable as a set if they could not be replaced, and being so cavalier.. really irks me.

Long-distance move from Springfield, IL to Philadelphia, PA

80% of our belongings stolen!

We moved from IL to PA. The movers came on Friday afternoon and packed the furniture and the belongings. They drove the truck to Springfield IL and parked it in the warehouse. On Sunday morning, an ex-employee with a drug addiction (which they knew about for years), broke in and stole 80% of our stuff. Never to be recovered! It was an inside job between one of the movers and the drug addict. He got probation and I got false promises and broken agreements from Bekins. The Springfield, IL facility wasn't locked and had no cameras. I went with Bekins on a referral from a friend. Worst decision in my life. Caused me so much heartache from losing everything. Was in treatment for breast cancer right before this happened and the stress was unbearable at times. NEVER trust this company. They will tell you things and NEVER follow through. I am still living the nightmare while the drug addict/ex-employee is living free. And they still charged me for the move!!

Long-distance move from Estero, FL to Fort Mill, SC

Items Broken.

Bekins moved our household from FL to SC. Items were wrapped and packed then stored in their warehouse for several months before delivering to SC.

Upon opening and unwrapping our delivery, we found 3 spinning rods out of 4 that had only been wrapped in paper had the tips broken off. Spinning rods cost around $75.00 each.

After contacting Bekins about this, They sent us a check for $6.00 and said we should have paid them the exorbitant amount of insurance that they tried to sell us.

We don't understand why someone that handles your valuable furniture and other household items, want you to pay for insuring the things that they are moving for you.

Long-distance move from Belvedere Tiburon, CA to McLean, VA

Please do yourself a favor and steer clear.

My husband's company paid for this mover, so I did not research them unfortunately. They gave us a 5 day delivery window and missed it by a day. We camped in our empty house waiting for them to come for six days. Our moving rep was uncooperative and even hostile at times. When we finally unpacked all of our items, we found items missing and broken, but most disturbing was that much of my jewelry went missing. Their movers packed all of our items, so it's hard to image the jewelry was "lost." Of course, much of it has sentimental value, including the earrings I wore at my wedding. I would much rather have my things than compensation, but imagine my outrage when I was offered $280 as settlement for my $1100 claim. I am heartbroken over my missing things, but I am shocked and angry at the incompetence and immorality of this company.

Many missing items.

I would never use Bekins again. Move N CA to E PA. I have had 6 major moves and this is the first time I am missing items from furniture to kitchen, clothes, decor, garage. Their response they adked everyone involved and all said they did not have my items and there was no proof I had them. Also their insurance only covers for any damage if they actually pack items.

Long-distance move from Oakland, CA to Brooklyn, NY

Do your homework.

This is just a fair warning for anyone else who is thinking of using Bekins for a cross-country move - get the most expensive insurance offered and keep your inventory papers! Maybe even make your own inventory.

My initial consultation in Oakland was fine. The packers and movers and the guy who was the lead mover in Oakland were pretty great.

But then after that as the saying goes "it was all downhill". They were mostly just pretty bad about communicating - I think because they outsource to local moving companies and are coordinating with so many different moving parts.

I had to keep calling to find out my delivery date and window in Brooklyn which is such a headache when you're moving cross-country and really wasn't sure who my main contact person was at that point. This is also not my first time moving cross-country. I've had several better experiences with Altair but I also had the most expensive insurance with them because I moved with a company so when something was damaged or went wrong, they just pay for it and correct it.

My very expensive bike never made it onto the truck from California to New York. I did storage for a few months before shipping my stuff east and I've seen other people say to be careful what you store in their warehouses. I'm not sure if and when it got stolen but that seems the most likely answer. However, because I only got the insurance that is 60 cents per pound - I only got $12 for my claim of $1000. BEWARE WHAT INSURANCE YOU CHOOSE.

My bed slabs also didn't initially make it but luckily they found them on the larger truck. Glad they did because I wouldn't have gotten any money for that.

I also ended up with someone else's loose shelves as a bonus - I hope that person got the better insurance.

Anywho, this is a good site to read a lot of angry reviews about them consumeraffairs.com/move…

Mostly just seems like they're disorganized and unless you buy the most expensive insurance you're taking a real chance with your stuff.

Long-distance move from Arizona to Wisconsin

Bekins/Wheaton movers.

We did have something broken - a bedpost cracked, but the driver personally notified me about it and assured me that it would be replaced.  I've found another item that is badly broken but I knew how fragile it was and failed to let the person packing it know that.  Another thing we aren't happy about is the amount of items that weren't put where they belong.  A lot of things were just stacked up in the garage, even though it says on the boxes where they belong.  We should have been on top of things and made sure it all went where it should.  The last thing that I'm not happy about is the mirrors were not re-attached to the dressers (2 of them).  I was told that they had "no idea" where the brackets were.  I've used 2 other moving companies and that has never happened before, it is a major problem in my opinion.  Otherwise I was very satisfied with the job done - both packing and moving.  All pieces of furniture were either blanket or shrink wrapped.  Lots of paper was used to wrap up the items packed.  We haven't even made a dent in unpacked everything so I don't know if there are any other broken items.
