So,\nwhen researching various moving companies in Canada, you must make sure &#8211; <strong><em>this\nis really important!<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; that those movers are proud CAM members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How does CAM regulate\nCanadian movers?<\/em><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Association of Movers does allow consumers to register a complaint against a moving company in Canada regardless of whether that mover is a CAM member or not. If something has gone wrong with your move, you should <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"follow this link (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mover.net\/consumers\/comments\/register-complaint\" target=\"_blank\">follow this link<\/a> to file a complaint against your mover so that the issue can be resolved quickly and amicably. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the\nmoving company you wish to report is a CAM member, the Canadian Association of\nMovers will record your claim, act as a facilitator between the two parties, refer\nthe issue to the moving company in question for resolution and response, and\nadvise you of the taken actions and the received responses. Also, if necessary,\nthe association will refer the issue to an independent body, for example &#8211; the\nBetter Business Bureau (BBB). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the\nmoving company you want to complain about is not a CAM member, then the Canadian\nAssociation of Movers will still record your complaint so that other consumers\nget a fair warning, but it will NOT contact the moving company on your behalf. Nevertheless,\nCAM will still advise you on the most appropriate course of action in your specific\ncase, such as contacting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>the government consumer protection agency in the Canadian province where the moving company is located;<\/li><li>the Better Business Bureau in the province where the Canadian mover is located;<\/li><li>a lawyer and a small claims courts;<\/li><li>the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antifraudcentre.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (opens in a new tab)\">Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre<\/a>; <\/li><li>the police; or<\/li><li>the local media. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian Association of Movers offers to the general public a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Member Directory (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mover.net\/consumers\/find\/member-directory\" target=\"_blank\">Member Directory<\/a> where people can search for reputable CAM members &#8211; Canadian Movers (when moving within Canada) and International Movers (when moving from Canada to outside of North America). In addition to the CAM Member Company Search, you can also validate whether or not a moving company is a Certified Canadian Mover. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ontario-ministry-of-government\">Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services maintains a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerbewarelist.mgs.gov.on.ca\/en\/cbl\/search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Consumer Beware List (opens in a new tab)\">Consumer Beware List<\/a> &#8211; a searchable public record that lists Canadian movers who have not responded to the Ministry after 2 notifications concerning a consumer complaint. If a Canadian moving company does not take any action after the second notification has been sent by the Ontario Ministry, then that company is added to the Consumer Beware List. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition\nto that, the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services will\nblacklist any Canadian moving company that has been charged or convicted in\nrelation to the Consumer Protection Act, or another relevant act by the\nMinistry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>How does the Ontario\nMinistry regulate Canadian movers? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-aspectratio=\"450\/180\" width=\"450\" height=\"180\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.mymovingreviews.com\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ontario_ministry_logo.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29531 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/moveadvisor.com\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ontario_ministry_logo.png 450w, https:\/\/moveadvisor.com\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ontario_ministry_logo-300x120.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can\nimagine, no Canadian mover will be too thrilled to be listed in the Consumer\nBeware List simply because any consumers who have checked that list as part of\ntheir pre-move homework will not readily hire any of the listed businesses\nthere no matter how desperate those consumers are to find professional moving\nservices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a\nmoving company is contacted by the Ontario Ministry in connection to a consumer\ncomplaint, the business must respond to the Ministry, explain the issue of the\ncomplaint, and then do its best to resolve the unfortunate situation to the\nsatisfaction of the consumer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If neither\nof those actions is taken by the Canadian mover, then the Ministry adds the\nbusiness name and all related information to the Consumer Beware List. Once\nthere, that information will remain in the Consumer Beware List between 21 and\n27 months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all,\nthere are 3 ways for a moving company to be removed from that list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>to prove that it did not receive the\ncomplaint notice from the Ministry;<\/li><li>to respond to the Ministry in\nrelation to the issue; and<\/li><li>to resolve the issue to the\nsatisfaction of the consumer who filed the complaint in the first place. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you strongly feel that you\u2019ve been wronged by a Canadian Moving Company, follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/filing-consumer-complaint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"these steps (opens in a new tab)\">these steps<\/a> to file a consumer complaint with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But before\nyou do, make sure you\u2019ve checked the consumer protection laws first to\nunderstand how exactly you are protected, and then write a complaint letter to\nthe moving company in which you describe why you believe the company has\nviolated your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the latter fails to take your consumer complaint seriously or mishandles it terribly, then it\u2019s time to lodge your official complaint with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"How to protect your rights when hiring a mover in Canada (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/hiring-mover\" target=\"_blank\">How to protect your rights when hiring a mover in Canada<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"better-business-bureau\">Better Business Bureau (BBB)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another powerful organization that regulates Canadian moving companies is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Better Business Bureau (opens in a new tab)\">Better Business Bureau<\/a> (BBB). These moving reviews will give you a better idea of what type of moving\nprofessionals you\u2019ll be dealing with throughout your move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the move, you\u2019ll be given the opportunity to file a customer complaint through the BBB about your Canadian mover if things didn\u2019t go as smoothly as you had hoped. And if that happens, your complaint will be forwarded to the moving company within two business days. Then, the mover will be asked to respond to the complaint within 14 days, and it does not do it, then a second request will be made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as the BBB receives a response from the moving company in question, you will be notified of that answer, or its lack thereof, and advised on what you should do next to resolve your issue with your Canadian mover.
